Angry Bottle and torches NONO

NEVER ever use a torch or open flame on a bottle. No I do not have any pics on bottle explosions or any thing. I keep hearing how people are using torches to heat their bottles. You are doing nothing but putting your self and people around you in danger. Now and in the future.

Also I personnel would never buy a bottle used unless I knew the person who owned it, and knew a the bottle never saw the lit end of torch.

Ok just wanted to say my peace on this.
These are my thoughts take them for what it worth.

I've used a torch. If you just keep it moving around and stay away from the valve, you should be ok. It's not banned from any track that I'm aware of. Have there been explosions because of this?

I know it's bad but sometimes there aren't many other options. Just make sure you never keep the flame in the same spot and you don't heat near the valve. Always heat it at the bottom of the bottle, and if at all possible, have the bottle open while heating it.

And yes every track has rules that specifically say no heating nitrous bottles with open flames or torches.

Why would you even think to do this? If you dont have any other way either

a) Dont use it
b) Get a correct bottle heater
c) Turn your car on with the heat on full blast. Worst that will happen there is the burst disk will rupture

Agreed, I believe I posted a similar topic a couple weeks ago, but can never say it enough. It's not really worth it.

i see some ******** at atco (track) doing this ****. i make sure i stay away from them, not trying to get any shrapnel in my ***.

in order to not start a fight, i think i will clue the track officials in on this the next time i see it happening. i don't care if they do it over in some corner, but i see guys pushing thier car through the staging lanes with cars/people around heating the bottle with a propane torch

Remember the old saying, "A Fool and His Torch are Soon Parted".

A torch moving around the bottle is still a torch. The flame is still very hot, not a race in the world worth blowing myself up. Better yet, one car over in the pit a guy uses a torch and boom, takes you out also..

Torches are bad period.

I know what you mean. everytime I go out to the track I see this guy in an old camaro that uses a torch to warm his bottle. I'm always worried about it too. When I see him bust out the torch I go the other way. I don't want to be around when something happens. I told him something about it once but he was so sure it wasn't a problem.
