What is the difference between......
CamMotion, Comp, Lunati, Crane cams, i mean if a cam has all the same specs but by respective manufacturers..........are any better, sound different, more reliable or is a cam: is a cam: is a cam: according to specs???? I was looking at an FMS F14 which is CamMotion then i was looking at Comp's XE-R 232/234 .595/.598 112*, which is almost exactly the same size and i'm just curious what's different if anything???

They are all similar but have their own grinds cut.
for example TR's 224 cam has less lift then a comp 224 cam.
Some people perfer certain grings.
Another example is comp has a XE and a XER serier grind.
I might want the XE because I am using Z06 springs where as you might want max power and use a more aggressive grind with faster ramp rates.
Someone will be able to explain this better I am sure.
Good question though as I haven't seen this question asked before.

Thank you, i'm just wondering because the F14 sounds perfect to me, but I can get a custom grind cheaper in a pkg at the shop i've already had my tune done at and i'm just curious if something with similar specs will sound the same and perform similarly???

This is the reason some companies dont release their cam specs.
In my oponion you could save a few bucks and get a very similar product.

Diffrent cam manufactures use diffrent lobe speeds. Cams have charecteristics at diffrent valve lifts that make them what they are. You need to look at all the numbers. Most post there .200, .050, and .600 lift numbers which is a good way of telling what a cam is doing. Say if you had a 224/224 cammotion cam, and a comp 224/224 XE-R cam, you would have 2 diffrent cams. The Comp XE-R lobe will stay a single pattern cam through the whole lift range, whearas the Futral/cammotion cam will go reverse split around .200". You don't see everything in the .050" numbers that most of us tend to look at. The best thing to do is look at the manufacturers lobe catalog and find the lobes you like. Then right down the .200, .050, and .600 duration numbers and compare them. When you subtract your .600 numbers from your .050 numbers it will tell you how aggressive the lobe is. The smaller the number, the more aggressive the lobe.

And yes, you can have two very different looking lobes with the same .050 and lift specs. One could be a sharp V shaped lobe, while the other could have a more rounded U shape.
