Default TSP sent me wrong cam need some adivce

i ordered a MS v3 from texas speed for my 396. instead they sent me a 231/237 cam. i dident notice this until i assembled the short block and got it in the car never ran it yet but now this is gona dealy me for a good amount of time. i was looking thro some paper work and notice the diff in the duration. i got my reciept from tsp that says i order a msv3 but the cam card shoes 231/237. my question is what will be the diff in peak hp. i will update the post tomorrow and let u no what they do about it.....

well the 231/237 is:

.006 - 289/299
.050 - 231/237

MS3

.006 - ~286/291
.050 - 237/242
.200 - ~158/163

the 231/237 is an older cam using a less aggressive ramp rate compared to the newer and XE-R lobe of the MS3. not only will the MS3 make more peak power but should make more under the curve. the MS3 has 3.5* of overap @.050 as well.

Damn, it made it that far before you noticed

Midrange power will probably be the biggest difference. With the 231/237 seeming to be more for higher rpm power.

Afraid you have a typo there jrp. you forgot the "1", it's 13.5* of overlap at .05.

Enough to make sure you get the MS3 in there and not the 231/237. Make sure to verify with TSP, if you havn't, that the cam is indeed the wrong one. GM Muscle got the cam he ordered but the wrong cam card not too long ago.

Yea its possible that its the wrong cam card as its been a few weeks since the last 231/237 were even ordered for inventory. Either cam will have a part number on the back, the MS3 will have 25-MS3 (hand engraved) as the part number and the 231/237 will have just that "231/237" but it will be stamped.

Why don't you guys (sponsors) put some identifying marks on the front of the cam???

Notice how many people buy a car with a cam, and do not know what it is. Then they are told, "Easy, just pull the cam out and the markings are on the back"

Well 84CAMAROZ28 looks like tou, are pulling this cam out.
Another way is to degree the cam (which you should do anyways), and that my friend will tell you exactly what cam is in there without pulling it.

Dont forget this is not for stock cubes, guys.

In your 396, I would think you could use all the can you can get (as far as off the shelf grinds). It dosnt take too long to do the cam swap itself, probably only half a day

I knew it.

Maybe GM muscle got your cam card and vice versa.

That was several weeks ago though.
