Default MTI/AFR Stage 2 flow comparison

Since I have a set of both I decided to get flow numbers on both to compare:

MTI Stage 2 heads

.200 - 131/98

.300 - 189/141

.400 - 231/175

.500 - 265/199

.550 - 276/211

.600 - 277/218

.650 - 277/222

.700 - 277/224

AFR 205 Stage 2

.100 - 61/50

.200 - 133/108

.300 - 198/158

.400 - 236/204

.500 - 276/221

.550 - 287/227

.600 - 294/232

.650 - 296/235

Was a pipe used?
Clay radius?
3.0 bore?
What kind of bench?

Weird how the MTI heads flow 277 from 600-700

I'd like to know the intake and exhaust volumes in cc's on the MTI head.

I'm not going to be much help here except the fact the two sets were flowed on the same bench by the same guy consecutively. I thought that was kind of interesting that the intake was tapped out @ .600.

I don't have specific volumes on the intake and exhaust but these are the Stage 2R heads and are milled .030.

Im on the market for heads. That info helped a great deal

My TR224 only has a lift of .564 so any numbers above that dont mean jack to me. There arent to many cams out there with the lift of .600.

Even though Id lose about 10 CFM looking at both heads at .550, im ok with that and the $1000.00 dollar savings.

That is if both heads have the same everything

That's the kind of info that should be on these forums !!

First off, you can't buy the MTI heads for $1,182 (that would be $1,000 less than the AFRs) and second, look at the flow difference on the exhaust. The AFRs are 20-30 numbers better at the lifts your cam would be running. The intake is a solid 10 numbers better at most usable lifts...all with a smaller, higher velocity port.

Sorry I posted it above, but accidentally tied it into a quote. They are the 2R heads.

Phil the MTIs are going to be for sale if you are in need and interested or anyone else for that matter.

Do you have the original flow sheet that came with the MTI heads? If so what did they say they flow? Only reason I say this is simply because the Stage 2R MTI claims that they do 300

When were the MTI heads ported? Recently or is this an older set?

I bought these from a board member so as far as flow sheets that originally came with the heads I do not have them although the advertised flow numbers are pretty accurate until about 550 and then the flow numbers take a hike as opposed to what my flow sheets shows. Neither head was able to top 300. This is supposedly a fairly new set of heads. I was told the MTIs were new but they do show signs of having gaskets on at one time. The AFRs are new.

Find me a dealer that doesnt charge you extra to have your AFR heads down to 11:1 compression, and Ill buy them. AFR come stock at 66cc, then you have to mill them to get 60cc which is about the 11:1 compression im looking for. Did you have your heads milled, or are you at the factory 66cc? that's the price savings im talking about
The MTIs are about $ 1500.00
