Default FD vs LS1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was out enjoying a late night drive tonight by myself when I merged from one highway to another. As I looked over my shoulder to check for any cars I notice a clean black T/A coming up fast b4 he slowed down at my window(only other car on the road). I couldn't see the driver but he had a passanger that looked to be about my age 20s. I could tell they wanted to race because the guy was grinning from ear to ear with his arm out the window ready to flag us on.

First run was from 60. The start was pretty sloppy. The dude dropped his arm and I hit it but the T/A didn't. so I let off and he floors it. I quickly go WOT and pull about 1.5 - 2 cars on him through 3 gear before letting off for an upcoming bend in the highway.

Second run was a lot cleaner. After the bend the T/A catches back up the 2 guys give me a thumbs up. I return the props and heard him downshift again. We are now going about 50 so I downshift to 3rd and am about to take it to second then I hear him start the 3 honks. So I was like "oh well" and left it in 3rd gear. On the 3rd honk we both hit it at the same time and we were dead even a few seconds b4 I reached my powerband. Then by the top of 3rd I had close 3 cars on him. I shifted to fourth and took it up to about 125mph. By this point I had about a bus on him and his headlight were only getting smaller. (don't know when he let off)

I started slowing down and he reached his exit before he could catch back up. All in all it was a pretty fun night. they seemed like cool guys but i didn't get a chance to talk to them and find out what they had. But it sounded like it was stock. and I assume it was a m6 bc I could hear him downshift way before going WOT.

My mods are:
intake, full exhaust, efini y-pipe, PFS SMIC, PFC w/comm tuned by the Guru himself at Gotham, I was running a little over 13 psi

Cliffnotes: FD=2 LS1=0
guys in T/A were cool, props given both ways.

Don't feel bad I was going to have to ask the same thing.

Good kills.

It always look really odd to me when I read a post from somebody with a post count of zero.

Thanx, My 7 is a 93. I don't know why my post count is zero. oh well. i've been lurking around this forum for a while. I've been wanting to run an ls1 for a while toosee how i 'd compare. the only other one I raced was cammed(sounded sick!) and he put 2 cars on me pretty easily, but once again, I was in the wrong gear(not that it would have made much difference lol). I just ordered a new clutch and lightweight flywheel(stock flywheel has been slipping for a while now)and we will be having a rematch just for ***** and giggles. it will probably be on video also. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

Its because this board (like some others) doesn't give you credit for posting in this forum. You'd have to post in one of the tech sections or similar to increase post count.

Sounds like you've got a good running RX. I had an '87 Turbo II a couple years back. They're pretty fun cars. Good kill.

An FD, a Dsm, and a 3si on one thread. No one could say ls1tech isn't diverse.

Boosted, you should post pics of your Stealth. They are certainly a rare commodity. The few I have seen in the last five or so years, which I could count on one hand, are total sleds. How's yours? I've always strongly admired them. I've always toyed with the idea of purchasing a 3000GT VR-4 Spyder. I fell in love with the retractable hardtop when it first came out. It was being demo'd on a red 3000GT by a fine-*** model with a remote-control. The car was on a rotating pedestal during our annual auto show many years back... Really sweet.

My first time at the track i only ran a 13.8 @ 108 bogging horribly off the line with a 2.4 60 ft. after that i could smell my clutch really bad and the times only got worse as my clutch slipped more and more =(

I have sence added better tires the efini y-pipe, and a tune and yes i am on the stock twins. the rest of my mods are in the first post. new clutch and flywheel in the mail.

You should be low 13's when done. Those cars are HOT. From what i understand you are always runnin them at 9/10's cause of thier incredibly small engine. Nice kill man.

AH... okay FD=RX7, gotcha.

Nice kill.

I had a buddy that had a 94 RX7 and I ran him in my H/C 94 LT1. That thing was WICKED! I asked him what he had done besides the 18s, carbon fiber wing and hood and he said he went with a single-turbo after blowing up his twin set-up. He was running 16lbs of boost and putting out ~365hp(!)

I tell ya, if Mazda made a proper RX7, I'd be all over it! Nice cars.

Nice kill, what are your mods? I just sold my 94 rx7 for a t/a . I loved the fd ( minus the problems and maint.).

i had a 88 turbo II rx-7 or Fc before my formula. that car was fun i loved it but like blackTA98ls1 said the problems and maint were to much for me. when i sold it the motor was gone with 2 broken apex seals and 4 side seals. my mods on that seven were Racing beat exhaust, microtech lt-8 and stock turbo with around 12-14 pounds of boost thats probly why it blew.
but once i drove my formula i fell in love with its v8 rumble and performance. congrats on the kill, u have a strong running fd there

Thanx for the compliment guys
Low 13's is what i'm aiming for but i have my fingers crossed for a sub 13 sec pass. just gotta get my launch and 60 ft down.

I'm suprised so many of you guys once had or still have an rx7. most people i talk to don't even know what it is. lol

00formLS1
I know exactly what you mean. I much rather prefer the sound of a rumbling V8 to my pissed off weed wacker. but the car is a blast to drive and i still can't get over the looks for such an old car so it's all good.

And for anyone who missed it, My mods are at the bottom of the first post.

that's why you should just wait until the current engine blows, then swap in an LS1!

I tried to convince my buddy who has the white one I used to race all of the time to do that when his popped but he's an RX-7 purist. BTW, nice kill on the T/A.

I had all my current mods minus a tune, efiny y-pipe,short shifter, and it was still untuned and on bald 225s.

stock 3rd gens run about high 13s low 14s but they only trap about 101 i beleive. I really need to invest in the good driver mod lol
