How to tell when clutch is going out?
Ok, car's got about 32k on it now, probably 15-20 track passes, but no slicks or even any sub 2.2 sec 60 ft times. I'm having a problem where the clutch tends to stay stuck to the floor after shifting above 4500, and also the clutch gets real spongy if I've been driving the car for more than an hour or so. Also, the car isn't going into 2nd, 3rd, and reverse as easily as it used to, but this is more of an intermittent thing. Is this a problem with my clutch or the hydraulics?

Yep, I am getting the same problems. I will go to shift and it slides out of gears OK, but wont go into the next one. The clutch is not releasing all the way. But it doesnt appear that I have a fluid leak, and I have everything tied away from the exhaust. My master/slave combo has about 30000 miles on it. I have also heard that the clutch fingers and throwout bearing might "stick" together causing a similar issue. Either way it is very annoying to try and race somebody and the damn thing wont go into gear

Yeah, that's for damn sure. You guys think this problem could be solved with the drill mod, or do I need to replace the master and slave?

Seriously though, the clutch wearing out will be seen as soft engagement, slipping. Shifting problems are more likely hydraulic related. Upshifting issues under hard accelleration is related to the clutch linkage not reacting quickly enough to the pedal. Better shifter, upgrade to 01,02 slave, adjustable MC, drill mod & thorough bleeding are the cures.
I struggled with these things for a while, all the time damaging the tranny in missed shifts, now with a rebuilt trans w/steel shift fork & no air in the clutch hydraulics it's working like a champ.

Mine doesn't necessarily stick to the floor, but the spongy feel is definitely there. The shifting action isn't the greatest, but once I get it into gear it feels great. It's just a bitch to get it into the gear sometimes. This seems to have worsened actually since I got my pro 5.0 shifter, but I think just because my throws got shorter it amplified the problem that was probably already there. I don't think my clutch is worn out, but I'm thinking mine is the hydraulics as well. Seeming how the slave cylinder is a lot less pricey than the master cylinder, do you guys think it might be wise to change out to an 01-02 and see if this does me any better?
All I know is this is the one thing that I don't like about the car right now, and this is the one thing that's keeping me from my first time at the track because I don't want to embarass myself shifting.
