TA License Plate Question
I have an '02 WS6
when you take off the firebired cover on the nose, there is the spot to mount your license plate. i was wondering whats behind that plate. I wanna make a hide away plate, but I need to know whats behind that plate before i start cutting. I was hoping there would be about ~8" of depth behind it?
has anybody see whats behind there? I can't see from the engine or underneath. If its just foam for the bumper no problem, but if i only have a couple inches or there is a brace, i'm screwed
pics would help also
thanks!

yeah thats what I was going to resort to next, but I have to remove some of the shielding underneath the nose.
What i'm going to do is have the firebird emblem swing back behind the nose. with a hinge at the top of the emblem.
the emblem is a little over 7", so I said 8" to give me some room

That part of the bumper should only a little of the absorber in the way... the amount in the way shouldn't be that hard to remove...
For those who said just jack your car up and look your mistaken... You can not see anything actually if you have the plastic covers that bolt to the bumper and air dam you can not see anything but the radiator... If you want to seriously do this. you will need a 10mm socket remove all the uncovers, then use a deep 10mm socket to remove teh 2 bolts on each side that hodl the bumper to the fenders.... you will then need to remove the push pins that hold it in on top and undo the screw that holds the top part of the bumper to the fender. once this is done you can pull it way. I would suggest making some kind of note of how high the plate cover sites compared to the absorber...
I know what your thinking off. those flip covers they used to make for older f-bodies. I dont' see it working on the front of this one... or even the rear.. there is nothing there to work with... Don't take my word for it spend the 1.5 hours to get your front bumper cover off and look.

thanks converted
have you had the nose of your car off? do you think i could clear 8" back behind there?
Thanks for the instructions, but I believe what you told me is to take the entire nose of the car off, correct? I don't want to do that. I don't want to worry about the nose not lining back up correctly.
if i'm missunderstanding you, could you either repost, or PM me and i'll give you my AIM screen name and maybe you could give me some advice
thanks!

LOL i've had the whole front end off. and yeah you could clear 8'' if need be i'm sure...
lining the bumper up isn't that big of a deal... the fenders have alot pins in them that keep them lined up.. it's really not that big of a deal to take off it's just all the underneith bolts that take all the time too get off...
if you dont' mind me asking
what is your idea on how this is suppose to work?

i'll have to decide how far i wanna get into this
okay, the idea is, the backing behind the firebird emblem, cut that out, and mount the license plate back about 8 inches into the nose.
put the firebird emblem back on (so the license plate is hidden), put a hinge on the top of the emblem, so that, it'll swing backwords and up underneath, revealing the license plate
i hope that made sense
as for the mechanics of how i will power it, i can get into later if you want. i'm an engineer, so i have lots of catalogs with nice little gizmos to make it work
i dunno if the cops will buy the idea of the plate sitting that far back into the nose. i would try to make it look "stock" lol
