Is that a new gear? OEM, Motive, Strange? Looks like the drive is a little deep," too much pinion shim." What does the coast look like?

Pull out .003-.004 thousands and put up a pic of the drive pattern. What is backlash set at? I just did one on sunday.

That gear is a 2 cut gear and the pattern will be different than a standard gear set.

Drive looks better, sorry to ask but can you get me a shot of the coast side?
And again what is your back lash set to? .007 - .009 is ok.

here is a pic of the coast side. the install instructions on the aam gears said that they should be tighter than other gears they gave .004 -.007. I set it at .005

I did 3 heat cycles with it on stands. I just got back from a 20 mile in town driving trip. I took it easy on them. So far everything is great I got it up to 60 just before I got back. No whine or howling as of yet. This was my first gear install and man it was a pain in the butt. Actually I think that I made it harder than what it really was. I am glad to be done with it. Thanks for all the advise and help you guys have gave me. It has really hepled me get through this.

Cool, great to hear everything is working out right for you, alot of people don't make it as far as you did. The coast looks ok but I have never set backlash tighter than .007, even in a race only application.

Yeah I thought backlash was too tight also but if you look here on page 31
http://www.neapco.com/pdf/2002axleri...ioncatalog.pdf
it tells about the backlash for the aam gears. I was worried about it but another memeber on here who was very helpful also recommended .004-.007
I am taking it out on a about a 40mile trip today I guess only time will tell. Thanks again for your help.
