Default How to make the double din Pioneer avic-d1 unit fit?

What work would be neccessary to make that unit fit in a T/A? Also would this unit be any good for running a moderately high powered system? And if anyone has any comments on the unit as well. I wanted to put a full touch screen flush in the center with a carputer, but this seems like a much more affordable and reasonable comprimise. thanks.

The Avic is not a double din. It is a din which will fit right in. The screen pops out and up. I have heard of issues like the screen blocking vents and not coming out completely vertical.

Other issues that keep me from getting one...

The N1 had a loud fan that is always on.

The N2 will not allow you do change anything (like navigation) while the car is moving. The N1 was the same, but had an easy hack.

To me it looks like if you cut the top post where the TCS and Fog light switch is, you might get enough clearance to fit it in there. Either way, its gonna need to be a custom job.

*FYI, the D1 does not play DVD's.

From the description i read...it has two slots behind the screen, one for the CD player and one for the NAV cd. Is this possible to have both in there?

Yes. Its a nice feature because you don't have to keep switching disks if you wanted to change your route like you would have to with the N1 or N2.

Ya now I remember .

For a firebird it might fit if the top and bottom of the radio bezel were cut to the size (It would basically be sitting on top of the AC controls). There also might be a factory cage that you'll have to chop up to make it fit also. To make it look good (if you were to cut it out) I would wrap the bezel in vinyl to match the dash, this way you won't see the cuts. Definatly a lot of work involved...

It's not a lot of work at all. I can't comment on the TA, but I did it in my Camaro. Like madice said, you have to trim the area just above the stock radio opening. You also have to shave some off the bottom part of that opening. Then, there will be approx 3/4" gap on each side of the radio that would have to be bondoed. FWIW, it is VERY difficult to have this piece covered in vinyl (believe me, I tried). There are just too damn many compound curves. I can get some pics if you guys would like.
