i have a 2001 transam... i dont plan to do a cam or anything...but i have about 42k on the car now... i was thinking of getting the belts replaced... would you just change the belts? or should i just get a crank pulley with new belts? i have a six speed t rans...and have a 800 watt stereo system..but i do have a cap..would i have charging issues?

You can get an overdrive alternator pulley. If you have $200 to spend I think I would go ahead and get it, however I wouldn't spend it unless you just have it to spend. You wouldn't gain a whole lot of power being that you would have the overdrive alt. pulley, but, you will increase the throttle response by quite a bit. I'd say 5rwhp, but worth it.

Still noticible throttle response increase here after pulley install w/ overdriven alternator...and magically fixed my fuel trim problem I was having at the time so that was an added bonus with my install. Have a similar wattage output with my stereo, and no charging issues.
IMO it was a worthwhile install

I just thought I had heard that a lot of people ran the o/d alt pulley with the A4. My bad.
But the fact that your idle has been raised may help out with the charging to the point where you don't need the extra pulley.
