I say get the Cobra.
The only real advantage I see to the F-body is that it has T-tops. If you can live without them, then the Cobra's faster and has more potential. Driven both, I'd also say that the Cobra is more pleasurable to drive around with the IRS. The interior is pretty drab on both, so that's your call. Exterior styling's all subjective...I like both of them.
The major object is price, because an 03 or 04 Cobra will be more expensive than pretty much every F-body out there.
Have you considered a used C5? That's next on my list, and you can pick up an older one for the same or less as a Cobra.

SOM is an awesome color and yeah, good luck on grabbing one of those!

The SOM WS6 is holding its value pretty well along with the 30th WS6.
I think the 30th WS6 is the best looking Pontiac built.

Mod for mod, LS1 wins, and a 12 bolt in my opinion is nicer than IRS. Mustangs are just too common. I know from stock, it doesn't take much to make them go faster. But a FI LS1 with just bolt ons would get you 10's if you can drive. Cobra's are too expensive just to get into. I'd save the money by buying a T/a and spending it on mods.

If all you want is to go fast, get the Cobra.. However, no car [ except exotics ] stands out so much on the road as a WS6 [regardless of color] ... and the SOM is so rare, it'll not only go fast/quick.. but also get ALOT of compliments..
I simply can't help but drool whenever I see a SOM WS6..
I love the new Cobras.. but they're so easy to go fast.. it almost takes the fun outta it..
