Bear in mind that not all police run radar (and certainly not all the time). Just because you didn't get a warning when running near a patrol car doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your detector. Try going to the parking lot of your local grocery store and see if the automatic door openers set off the detector. Then find one of those roadside speed warning signs that have the radar units to show your speed (you can usually find one near airport entrances and construction zones). Drive toward it and see how much warning you get.

I agree, most cops don't have their radar on all od the time. Best bet, is to drive around and look for one of those speed carts which tells you how fast you are going. If it doesn't work then, you have a problem. Another way might be to go into a busy shopping mall, radar should start going crazy with all the automatic doors and stuff.

Radar signals haven't changed much in the last several years. The only thing that is new is the POP mode some police are starting to use. Even then, it is not a new frequency just a much shorter duration signal that most detectors ignore. It is not in common use yet so it's probably not worth spending a lot of money to upgrade. Other than that, your detector will pick up all the signals commonly in use unless it is extremely old.

not only can the V1 detect a POP, but it'll say POP on the screen... lol.
