Question about lightweight flywheel and nitrous
Hi I have a question for all. I bought an LS1/T56 combo for a swap in my 93 RX7. The motor dyno'd 420 rwhp and it's actually built to handle a 150 shot. (11:0-1, ross pistons, eagle rods and so on).
But I was thinking of using an aluminum flywheel. What do you think....would it stand up to the nitrous? Do the aluminum flywheels have a rep for bending under power?
And secondly, I had a choice of taking an a-spec clutch, but the disc was like a six puck style(which I know from past experiences sucks on the street), or a zo6 disc and pp, of which I chose the zo6. Will the stock clutch stand up to this power? I was told it will. I am open for any suggestions.

Aluminum flywheel will not be a problem. There are cars with way more power then you listed using it.
As far as a LS6 clutch goes, it will hold, the real question is how long!
There are plenty of HP clutches out there with opinion on both sides of the fence on them. Any high quality clutch from a SPEC3 to Exedy to the Texrilia to the Cartek has people pro and con. Hopefully what you get you will be happy with but I don't think the LS6 will be in there long... Best to do some searches and get the feel what seems to be working.
Good luck!

I'm using the LUK Pro Gold and Fidenza Al flywheel. I've been at 450-500 rwhp on the squeeze for over 10,000 miles and many 1/4 mile passes with no complaints. The pedal is light and it doesn't chatter or grab hard so no drivetrain shock.
We'll see how long it lasts

The Z06 clutch should last you at that power, but not much more. Just get it out quick and don't try the mondo launches. I prefer the steel flywheels. a heavey rotating mass will move a car quicker, but down sidr is it takes more power to get it turning. with n2o's additional torque getting it started isn't much of a problem and once spinning it's hard to stop, and works well with sticky tires, imo.

I am running the puck type disc (Textalia) and they supply a new Z06 flywheel, that should tell us something. It's a little fincky on the street, but that trade off is worth it, imo. As for the aspec, I'll let someone with experiance on that comment. Can I ask how much you gave for the Z06 set-up, as I am selling mine in the parts and just wondering in I am in the ballpark.

Just from my experience from the rotary that was in previous....the lightweight flywheel made all the difference in the world. I know, the LS1 makes more torque, but the rotary would spin up much faster, and, on the street laying into the throttle was much quicker. It would hit boost faster and the top end was much better also. It seemed to want to keep reving at 150mph were it seemed there was more of a load on the stock flywheel.
Maybe thinking about the LUK Pro Gold and the Fidenza flywheel. That sounds like a good combo.
