Default clean oil out of intake?

Has anyone actually been able to every FULLY clean their LS6 intake manifold out after it got oil in it?

I have put can after can of gunk down this intake and yet there is still a light coat left......it's not enough to hurt anything but just bothers me that I can't get it clean.....

As long as you run a PCV, you'll aways be burning a little oil.

I know that when I found out what my car was sucking thru the PCV... the first thing I did was get an AMW catch can. After that went on, I pulled the TB off, and used a rag that was soaked in 100% iso. alcohol,a nd swabbed inside the intake until I could pull a clean towel out of it. I used an 18 inch ruler, wrapped with a iso. soaked rag to get teh back part. I'm sure it didn't get every last bit out, but I got a hell of alot of oil out of it. I think the only way to get any more out then that would to be to remove the intake from the car and soak it on a tub of alochol or some other parts cleaner that won't harm the plastic. Not really worth it IMO.

Until you either remove the PCV, or at least put a catch can on , you'll never totally stop the oil from getting in there. I know that the AMW i put on my car did stop about 99% of it, it still gets a slight film in there, but not enough so that I concern myself with it. If you go the AMW route, jsut make sure you have a loop of hose on the intake side of the can, I thin kthat this helps catch the oil as it gives the oil and fumes a chance to cool enough so that the can can catch it, there's alot less vaporized oil once the air flow is given a chance to cool off.... at least that's what I was told anyway.

Agreed. It's just the nature of the beast. However, you can minimize the consumption with a catch can as described in the above post.

get a big bucket, put the manifold in there, and top it off with simple green. then scrub the **** out of it with a tooth brush.

Or you could run a seafoam treatment.

I did the seafoam and it worked great for me.

If you runa seafoam treatment.. make sure that your cat's are off the car.. you'll clog the crap out of them if you dont... unless they are about hollow like mine.

I didn't think that the 01 and 02 cars even had a PCV on them (LS6 intake)

How did you get oil in your intake 2001CamaroGuy?

I'm pretty sure the LS6 had a PCV but it pulled the oil from the valley and not the valve covers, I'm sure someone will correct me because I could be wrong.

I think your confused. All cars have a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system. Any vehicle that has blowby gasses in the crankcase has a PVC system. All crankcases need to be vented. Plus they are required by law for emission purposes.

I think you are refering to the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system. It opens a valve and lets hot exhaust gas into the intake under certain circumstances.

The EGR has the giant valve by the AC dryer and enters the top of the intake. The PCV sytem has a line entering the side of the intake and has the little valve that rattles when you shake it.

wow....went from no reply to 10 replies in one day

yeah....01+ don't have EGR but have PCV......

I guess I should have mentioned I don't have the PCV on the engine anymore (don't know how I forgot to mention that......should have known that would come up )......

I got the oil in the intake through the PCV (when it was there)........the oil that is in there now is leftover that I just can't seem to get out (a film) that just pisses me off more than anything.........that’s why I'm wondering if anyone has figured out something to soak the intake in/wash it out.....

Thanks for setting me straight on that one...

Have you tried spraying the intake down with degreaser and letting it sit for a while?

A lite oil film in the intake ain't hurting anything. Don't even worry about it.

Relax and just enjoy your car.

Submerging it would be the only way to get it all out I think.

I submerged mine in a big plastic storage box and put some dawn dishwashing soap. I left it there for about 2 days or so and then took it out. Ran some water through it with a water hose and let it sit for another day or two to dry out. I then used a rainbow (vacuum cleaner) on it to make sure it was bone dry. It worked pretty well on my intake and now it stays clean with my AMW catchcan.
