Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax or Ford Super Duty F-250 Powerstroke?
I have yet to test drive either one, but I'm biased on make as I've owned nothing but Chevys. My 2000 single cab short wheel base 4.3L V6 just aint cuttin' it. I have to pull my 2000 lb. car hauler and 2800 lb. car around and my truck just isnt up to par with power, braking, handling, or suspension. I want a diesel for sure. Anyone out there have either one of these trucks? I'm talkin' crew cab, 2wd, single axle, short bed, diesel, automatic, etc. What kind of gas mileage? My current truck gets 16 mpg between city and highway and 18 strictly highway! That's horrible. Now I wouldn't mind that kind of gas mileage with a big truck that can actually do something. Anyhow, if anyone has an opinion for me, let me know as I'm in the market for one and plan to buy soon. Thanks!

Well I’m going to recommend the Chevy, of course… (sig)…
I have a 2005 2500HD crew cab short bed 4x4 with the LLY Duramax Diesel and the Allison 5spd automatic transmission.
I can tell you that you really want to stay away from the powerjoke. I would take a look at the Cummins (Dodge) if you don’t want to go with the Duramax.
I love my truck! Very nice smooth engine/transmission. This truck has more than enough power to do anything you will need. There is also a lot of opportunity to have a little fun – I just bought a PPE programmer for mine and added 90HP and 180TQ – This thing pulls 'almost' as hard as my SS did stock and gets crazy looks every time I step on it.
Now for the useful information – Bone stock – my truck was getting 16mpg in the city (stop and go all day). On the highway (40 mile trip) I would see 16.5 or so. I never really get a lot of high way time though – so I can only offer city numbers. With my new programmer including the occasional WOT mustang ownage – I’m getting 17mpg in the city and I haven’t taken it out on the highway yet.
Good luck! PM me if you are going to buy the duramax and I can give you a little more info you might want when you go to the dealer.

As a Chevy guy, I'd be hard pressed recommending a Ford. But my boss has a King Ranch diesel, and it's a very nice truck. He has put over 60K miles on it already, and it's only a year old. Still runs like new.

I think the Ford looks better. Plus, the Duramax looks just like a plain Silverado (in and out), and the tires that come with the Chevy are a joke.
However, if I were to go out and buy one right now, I'd probably go with the Dodge. My friend just got a quad cab Dodge 3500 dually for $29k + tt&l. You can get the Larime package pretty much loaded for around $34K + tt&l.

Gotta love them cummings, I have an 05 3500 dually crew cab 4x4 that I purchased about a month and a half ago and totally love it, I'm only getting 14.5 mpg city, but was told that once it gets broken in, it will get better, I loved this truck so much, as soon as the 06 came out, I purchased another one just like it, you just can't beat these deals that they are offering on these trucks with this employee pricing.
