Default My 05 GTO vs 03-04 Cobra

I raced my first 03-04 Cobra last night. I went for a little drive around 8:00 last night and was just heading home when I see in my rear view mirror a black car charging up behind me pretty quick. The car pulls besides me and I notice it’s a 03-04 Cobra with a younger driver and a smile on his face. We both hit it at about 50 which is a good roll for my car being an auto and off the punch we seemed pretty even. He started to pull me slightly, but due to his poor driving skills when he went into third gear I was right at his side again. Next we caught a light and I was pretty confident hear because I have Nitto’s on my car. The light turns green and I take him out of the hole by about a half car which was not as good as I thought I would do, but maybe he had a DR to. He pulled me in and my front bumper was at his front tire at about 65, but again when he went into third I just about evened things up again. I talked to him after we raced and he said he was all stock which I do believe because those cars are slightly faster. I saw one go stock when they first came out in 03 run 12.8’s, but I don’t remember the trap speed. I wasn’t really expecting to win, but I had a lot of fun anyways.

Hey, I thought the GTO"s were a bunch of turds and couldn't keep up with anything. This must be a B.S. story. I thought I would call it first. Nice run.

Nice kill man there are a lot of Cobra's running around here, where are you located in Macomb? We may have to get together for a little run sometime, I would like to see how I would fair against an 05.

Good kill, sounds like the guy was actually a decent driver to not light them up at the light to bad.

On a side note, I feel bad for M8D having that 700R4. Mine's about to pop, and it only has 42K miles on it (But it is about 15 years old).

Nice run. My only questions is....why would you sell that Z06 to get a GTO! Did you need a back seat that badly? Don't get me wrong the GTO's are nice but not in the same league as a Z06.

I'm hopin the first one I come across is heavily modded and encourages me to mod my slow car even more so I can keep up.

Well if I'm gonna get smacked down by any Cobra it might as well be a damn fast one, and I don't know anyone faster around. Let me know if you are ever around Macomb or Utica area and wanna waste a little gas.

I sold mine with 135K miles and the only work done to it was a shift kit and a tightening of a few lose screws. Great Automatic tranny, IMO...and I dogged that car all the time

Good question to all who are wondering. The GTO is my wife’s everyday car. The reason for originally selling my vette was because we were going to be planning on starting a family and going to one income. The vette just did not fit the budget anymore. In fact, we just found out my wife was pregnant this week, so it was all in good timing. The reason for getting the GTO was so we could have a car to still throw the baby seat in and for me to be able to still have a taste of horsepower.

That makes sense. How much did you get for the Z? How many miles were on it?

I didnt actually sell that one; in fact, it was a lease that I had all the mods done to. I pulled all the mods off the car and posted it on a website called assumealease.com. This was over a year ago. A guy from Ohio took the car with 11 months remaining at $425 a month. The parts all sold on the corvetteforum. The car had 11,000 miles on it.
