Default Don't Understand this IPOD thing...

Hey guys, I'm trying to find something to hook up my IPOD to my car's stereo. When it comes to electronical stuff like this I draw a complete blank. Can anybody point me in the right direction. I have the factory CD player, which I believe was the same from 97-02. I don't have the monsoon system, and I don't have the steering controls. What products do I need to buy, and what would work best in my car???

Thanks!
Chris

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can buy an FM broadcaster for around $50. OR you could buy an FM Modulator that goes in line with the cars antenna that does the same thing. You just need to hook it up to constant, ignition, and ground behind the stereo.

Or you could hook it up like I did XM in my car:

GM9-AUX ($70):

A Line Driver / Pre-Amp will also help level out the RCA AUX-IN to have a volume similar to the Headunit's FM or CD.

Won't work - he has a 97 CD head unit. Up until mid-99 only the cassette head unit could control the external CD changer or work with the GM9-AUX.

Sorry, missed the part about it being a 97 CD headunit.
Swapping to a later CD headunit (2001+ prefered) should be easy.

...and generally not too expensive since so many people replace their stock HU with an aftermarket one.

Go aftermarket Alpine, I did, and will never go back. Alpine makes an Ipod adapter (KCA-i20 i think) that will work with all their new decks. It works great, you can search the ipod using the head unit, and all of the pertinent song info will scroll on the display of the head unit. I love mine, and have gotten lots of compliments on the setup!

You connect the ipod to the adapter, then run a cd-changer like wire to the back of the head unit, voila! Oh yeah, it also charges the Ipod when it's docked, great feature!

Go check out the iCruze its made by monster. They are the ones who make all the good rca cables for tvs in your house to your aftermarket cd player (high end cords). This system hooks up to your factory cd player and you have the option of buying a lcd display to have to see what your playin without havin to look at your ipod everytime. You can find just the iCruze module used on ebay for like 60 bucks and it would for sure work better than an fm modulator. Well just thought Id put that out there for ya cause Ive been looking for the same thing.

Once again, the iCruise module won't work with the 97 CD head unit - a newer HU would be necessary.

EDIT: Just did some more research and found that Monster doesn't make an interface cable to connect the iCruze to the 98-02 Monsoon head units so it won't work even if you get a newer head unit.
