Default GN's vs. 03'/04' SVT Cobras

I don't want to start any flames or anything, but which do you think would be faster in 1/4. I know some variables may be somewhat different on both cars, but which would be quicker: a modded bolt-on only GN or a modded bolt only supercharged 03/04 Cobra? My neighbor swears the GN would give the Cobra fits, but I don't know. What you guys think??

It will be very close, also depending on the condition of the GN. They tend to run high 13's stock in a maintained condition, and Cobra's are usually in the low 13's.

Once you start modding it's anybody's game. It's EASY EASY to get a GN into the 9's on the track, and it's easy to make an 03 Cobra a dyno king and a crazy fast street car.

it really depends on what you call bolt ons and what the owner is going for. I would have to say starting out with an extra 130 hp helps the 03-04 cobras out a ton, but GNs are very easy to get into the 11s and 60 ft and 1/8 mile like a bat out of hell. you can't really argue against a setup that can easily run an 11 while only trapping 113. When it comes to making just power... the Cobra wins hands down, but putting it down on the ground i give the edge to the GN

With the STOCK turbo (upping the boost) on the GN, they are limited to upper 11's (the norm). The norm for a STOCK eaton(small pulley) 03 coba is mid/low 11's.

stock turbo then yes thats a big restriction but a turbo is an easy bolt on..... but then so is a kenne bell i guess.

Tough comparison. Both take to mods well. $15K into a Cobra will give you mid 9's easily. $15K may seem like a lot to some of you, but it's not when you're talking 9's or better. 10's isn't even that cheap. Don't ask how I know.

Even if a GN runs 9's, I wouldn't want one. I really dislike their appearance.

The Cobra starts out the faster car and mod for mod will be faster, in a bolt on war the Cobra wins hands down....Now if you go into the extreme modified setups, a GN with a huge turbo, built motor and high stall is going to lay the smack down on an IRS equipped Cobra....but when you get that highly modded who says the Cobra has to remain IRS equipped?

Speculation is fun!

Yeap, it's getting to be a little outdated, hehe; I agree.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, hehe.

tough choice, heavy mods considering money isn't an option, I probably pick the GN though.

'03 Cobra gutted and backhalved weighing 3,100lbs.
4 link and a Liberty
Fully built race engine.
106mm turbo
33" 10.5W's

Gotta like the Cobras odds there.

I read in a GM Performance mag (forget which one) a $500 recipe to get a Stock GN in good shape into the 11's...none of it was tires.

I'm sure it's that easy to get a Cobra into the 11's as well... as long as you can drive.

I would give the edge to the GN, just because of the fact that and auto tranny is better at shifting than a mistake prone human

My T-Type has 72,000 miles, valve covers never been off. Even stock valve springs. Has upgraded, turbo, catback, intercooler and fuel system. about $2500 in mods. Will run easy 11.50's and drives like stock, still has stock torque converter. Most of the Cobras I see around here run between 11.70 and 12.50 so you tell me

GNs can go deep into the 11s on stock turbo....

This is a very hard comparison but a t67 turbo for a GN will make more power then a KB and its like 3-4K cheaper...

This baffles me since most of them here are low 11's with simple bolt ons and tires.

Yeah, but from what I've heard from you Unit there are a lot of great cars/drivers around your parts. I know that around here it could go either way with a Cobra. As far as the direct comparison I would personally rather do the GN thing, but that's because I have always loved them (owned a couple, too) and happen to think that they look pretty darn good even for their dated styling. Also there's something ro be said for being different. I see about 100 Cobras for every one GN. I like the Cobras, don't get me wrong for a second, but I have my weaknesses.

I also owned one and as soon as my blown GTs sells Im getting another one, funny you mention about seening them compared to the Cobras your 100% right but I seen probably the cleanest lookin GN at the gas station yesterday and I was in awe, other people walked up to just to look like it was a car show. Now I like the Cobra but I know that don't happen to often with them I know I hang with a few.

Well since we're running race engines how about a GN with a KB500 dropped between the rails running a twin screw @ 100psi and injected with 100% nitro-methane, backhalved of course, automan pneumatic clutch all tuned by Alan Johnson...

Gotta like the GN's chances there? Huh Huh? lol
