New Block and Heads from World Products !!!
I just spoke with a gentleman from World Products regarding their new super beefy LSx block/heads.
WP will be pulling the curtain on their new LSx based block/head(s) at the 2005 SEMA show during the first week of November! He verified the new block WILL have 6 bolts per cylinder instead of 4. Obviously the new block will be heavily reenforced for severe duty usage (eg: BIG BOOST!). It sounds like this new offering will be capable of very large cubic inches, it will be offered in an optional tall deck version.Pricing will fall directly in-line with their other block offerings. The 6 bolt/cylinder matching performance heads will be released at the same time and I was told both will be available shortly after SEMA. Current LSx based heads will work on the 6 bolt/cylinder block so you will not NEED to use the WP heads. Sorry no other details, but he did say everything would be public after the first week of Nov. Don't bother contacting World Products before November 7th, they are not releasing any info until after the SEMA show!
Forced induction, N2O, and big ci guys... it really sounds like the World is about to become a MUCH better place!

Darts iron SBC blocks are ~$2400, and their aluminum SBC blocks are ~$4500
I really don't see the LS1 blocks being any cheaper than their SBC counterparts, and if that is the case, they're not really going to be a realistic option IMO, especially since you have no option but to run their heads with them.

I was told prices will be "inline" with there other products. This means expect the iron to run ~$2000 and aluminum to come in around $3500.
Yes these prices are higher than std. production GM offerings, but look what you're getting... 5 bolts/cylinder and no more warped alloy blocks! Hell, I'd pay an addition $2500 just to know I wouldn't be warping alloy blocks. World's heads in general are nice heads so I'm sure they will flow and they price them right as well. I'm sure they would not offer POS heads with this package and they can always be ported! Besides, who gives a **** if the heads flow 10% less (which we don't know), if you can run an additional 10 psi of boost through the 5 bolt/cylinder engine itself! The potential to run much higher cylinder pressures FAR offsets any head deficiencies there MAY be. I'm also sure it would only be a matter of time before someone else offers another aftermarket head for this application.
I'm pumped about this!

Sorry, I got Dart and WP confused.
My point was, only the hardest of the hardcore can/will use a block that costs that much money, especially when <$1,000 OE blocks are surviving 1000+ rwhp pretty reliably, and going 8s regularly, 7s pretty soon.
IMO they're going to have a hard time selling $3000+ blocks, especially when their heads (which are unproven in an LS1 configuration, and are mediocre at best in SBC configuration) are required.

Why bother calling it an ls1 based engine. The sbc has 4.4 bore spacing and 5 bolt heads. All this will be is an sbc with nascar type heads and a deeper block in the crank area. I agree the costs will be prohibitive. The ls7 blocks and heads and the new truck heads will make what world is doing not very popular. I have one of there blocks in a 406 application with Dart heads. My nickel.

I spoke with a gentleman a few months ago, and he was telling just how impressive the new world product heads are. Flow numbers are way up there on the stock castings, and even higher ofcourse with port work. I am curious to see if the flow numbers are the same as he told me. If so, these things will be nasty in stock form.

i just read in hotrod magazine that there is a guy going 6.82 with and ls1 block with 4 bolts and puts out 1900 hp
why does anyone need this block or heads when we can buy a 427 block for probably 2000-2500 less?

I guess we will see when it hits the market.
The 5 bolt /cyl is a nice failproof trap. (untill some other aftermarket 5 bolt heads, that is)
You guys are just speculating on price. It won't be cheaper than a C5R. (speculation)

If your trying to build a powerhouse that holds together under lots of abuse, why the heck would anyone be concerned about spending $5000.00? Getting cheap is why people's cars break or don't run right.
