Default Why is my car idling up to speed when it's in gear?

I recently bought my '00 Z28 and for some reason it idles up to speed. Like you constantly have to be on the brakes. All work was done by East Side Performance here in CT. Is this normal to be able to idle so fast when it's in gear? Read my sig for specs. I mean, I don't wanna **** outta brakes like crazy

Yeah, it's probably right. You'll need to get an aftermarket torque converter to make it more managable on the street. Sounds like a nice car BTW.

thanks man, ya I'm going to call Eastside tomorrow too and find out some more info, cam specs, etc. I was considering a TC, maybe I'll need to get one.

Ported TB? Or Floor mat holding the gas petal slightly down.

Check for a bad engine coolant temperature sensor. Your PCM might be thinking that the engine is cold and is trying to warm it up.

Does it look like someone drilled the TB?

if it has a cam then the idle is probably raised to keep it from dying. Very tolerable with an aftermarket converter but miserable with the stocker.

TB appears stock and unmolested. My dad said the same thing about maybe needing a torque convertor.

idle set to high and/or cam size can cause/need for high idle, if cam is big like say around 230 duration then u will need TC. give us ur spec's on cam and what is ur idle set at, then we can probably be helpful.

Told my cam specs to be 224/224/562 and idle in park is around 800-1000

Hopefully I'll be positive on those specs within a day or so, I need to talk to the speedshop owner, that's what one of his workers told me who "thought" he remembered it to be the 224/224/562.

Search for "cruise control effect" in the tuning section.

It's complicated, but it has to do with your RAF, throttle cracker, throttle follower, IAC vs. effective position, etc.

It's all about tuning the idle properly. It's taken me about 20 tunes to get mine close to right.

Basically, your car is getting too much air at idle. It could be from a NUMBER of things. You have to log, tune, log, tune....... to get it right.

Most people can get the idle right by adjusting the RAF and IAC counts alone. To fine tune, it takes a bit more.

That is exactly what caused my high idle.

defiently looks like your in need of a converter or have them turn the idle down. a stock converter idiling around 1000 will definetly try to pull you along with a 224 cam depending on the lsa should be able to get down around 700-800ish idle and not be as bad but a converter would be good investment

click on 'idle tuning writeup' in my sig, few of the methods there describe how to get rid of what you're describing. namely RAF and resetting TPS sensor

several things can lead to this....vaccume leak, faulty IAC or TPS, or a coolant sensor would be the first things i checked. i have had similar problems that were solved by one of the above.

thanks, the dealership that I bought it from is sending it to a tranny shop around here who is one of the best period. They said they'll get to the bottom of it.
