Default 9.99 or 10.99 for a 10 point cage?

In the past it was a 6/8 point to 10.0, then a 10 point was required from 9.99 to 8.50(I think), has this changed? I saw in Summit it says you need a 10 point to go 10.99..is this true?

This is how I remember it, it may have changed but I don't think so. If you have not cut or altered the factory firwall in any way it is 9.99 and quicker. If you have made changes (cut out and replaced with aluminum as an example) it is 10.99 and quicker. Also I think if you have a t-top type car it has to follow the convertible rules? Not sure if this is in the books yet or not, but I have heard it is coming. Roll bar @ 11.99 and roll cage at 10.99?

Original wording for 05 was t-tops follow convertible guidelines. This was changed by both sanctioning bodies at the beginning of the 05 season. T-tops are still considered hardtops for rollbar/rollcage guidelines (at least thru 05). I've yet to see 06 rules.

Actually, the final word (at least from NHRA) is that if you want to race without your T-Tops, you will be classified as a convertible. If you run with your Tops on (both Targa and T-Tops), then you are classified as a hardtop.

And yes, 9.99 or quicker need a 10-point, unless you have an altered firewall. Then it is at 10.99. Otherwise a 5-point is legal to 10.00 (unaltered firewall) or 11.00 (modified firewall).

What classifies as an ALTERED firewall? Would a HVAC Delete be altered?

altered firewall = hole cut in it. HVAC delete isn't a new hole. rollbar with blockoff plate is ok.
