Default G5X4, HS, Gold Springs, and Morel lifters.....issue at 6700!

Finally got some breakin miles on the new setup and clutch and got the part throttle fueling worked out and took the car out for some WOT shakedown street runs. The car pulls like a bastard till about 6700 and it falls on its ***. I had the shift light at 6900 and planned on shifting at 7000-7100.

The setup consists of the G5X4, TEA heads with TEA gold springs shimmed to 1.78 install height to get pressures up some, Harland Sharp rockers, and morel lifters. Preload cold is approx .060 on intake and .075 on exhaust.

1. Could the HS rockers simply be too heavy for the setup? I wouldn't think so with the good springs, but anything can happen.

2. Could the Golds just not be able to keep up with the RPM, lift, and aggressive Ramps of the G5X4 stick?

3. Could I have too much preload on the Morels? Causing the valves to hold open up top? This is within specs of what others have done, but I got **** for luck!

4. Car is still on the stock fuel pump. Can it be running out of *** in the higher RPMS? The scanner didn't show any drastic changes in 02 values, but they are pretty inaccurate also.

I Really apprecaite any input you guys can offer.

I'd go with answer #1 and try reducign your preload. I had the exact same problems with the Yella Terra Rockers. Got rid of them and got rid of the valvetrain problem at the same time.

After making a few phone calls it seems the morels have some preload built in and like a little less preload then what I have set up. I'm gonna try that and if it still doesn't work, HS rockers for sale! Since I'm spinning it high I like the HS for stability and don't have to worry about needle bearings, but won't think twice about ditching them if I need. Thanks fellas, and keep it coming!

You need .030" preload on the Morels.

Wow, if I'm correct in recall, .030 is 1/2 turn past zero lash on stock rockers right? With each 1/4 turn being .015 with the stock rocker bolt thread pitch. I have the Morels and with a 7.350 PR I ended up 1.25 turns past zero or .075 on both.

Sounds like you and i might have had the same info upon setup. I was told to set them up like a stocker and had 1 full turn on the intake and 1.25 on the exhaust. With .015 being 1/4 turn. Wow was what I said today when it floated all the valves! I got the correct info now and will adjust according and hope that takes care of it.

I'm gunna go with the rockers also. Even with the correct pre-load, I believe that it will still float. I'd sell those and get a set of the stock replacement Harlan's. Then you won't have to worry about the bearings.

Heads are cut .035, running .040 cometic gasket, and a 7.35 pushrod and a .040 shim to get the geometry close. I talked to Nate at Nasty and he said he didn't think the HS rockers would cause it. I'll reset the preload and run it. If it still does it I'll yank um.

I think it might be the rockers too. But just out of cariousity, how much RWHP are you pushing? And are you running stock fuel injectors? Could it be that your injectors are insufficient for your mods now, and working at a too high of duty cycle up top.

Car should make high 400's and the injectors are Racetronics 37's, so it's got plenty of injector.
