Default GM installed SPEC III...it's engaging at the floor and rattling/shaking badly!!! HELP

Okay, just got the car back from the GM dealership, the clutch pedal is engaging about an inch off the floor! Why is it doing this?
Installed:
Flywheel was resurfaced
SPEC III w/ shim
Upgraded Slave

I'm going to do the drill mod. Am I screwed and need to buy an adjustable master cylinder? Can i get by with the dyi one?

car is a 2000 w/ 52k miles...please help!

It will get worse after break in. You have a few choices, pull the trans back out and add shim, or get an adjustable master.

It's already shimmed with the one that came with it! WTF? Is that shim not big enough?

Can i get by with the DIY adjustable master cylinder?

Put my new SPEC 3/ SPEC flywheel in about 6 days and 200 miles ago and mine was doing the same thing. It is getting better though. About 3 " off the floor now.

I had my SPEC 3 installed on the 4th of July this year, on the 13th of Sept. I pulled it out because it was slipping. It's trashed.

Are you sure the guys that installed it at the dealer bled your hydraulics? I'd bleed them just to be on the safe side, it sounds like you have some air in there. A mityvac will work great to do this.

BTW, I have the same clutch, stock updated hydraulics, and mine wasn't engaging an inch off the floor, not even the first time I drove the car after the install. It's been just fine for over a year now and over 10K miles.

If your pedal starts engaging higher after driving it for a while it's because air is slowly working it's way up into the resevor and out of the system. As the disk, flywheel, and pressure plate "bed in" it moves the pressure plate fingures further from the slave cylinder requiring the slave to travel further, sometimes further than it will travel.

Like others have said, bleed the system, again and again. If you feel like you have all the air out of the system then I recomend an adjustable master. I built my own, and it worked great, but now the car is down again due to a bent m/c push rod. If you build your own, make sure the rod is perfectly strait, or it will bend like mine.

Ok...i took a closer look at the car today and the fluid in the MC cup is BLACK...the dealership said they flushed it...but it's just as black as when i took it in! And also after putting about 50 miles on the car there is a REALLY REALLY bad rattling noise when taking off from a stop and when the motor reaches 2000 rpms in any gear! It's like a PP bolt is loose or something! Also when i rev the motor up while in neutral the motor shakes pretty violently, this isn't normal! Any insight?

Something is lose if you have a vibration. Most likly a pressure plate bolt, which is probably causeing your engagement problem as well. Take it back, the dealership will say it's from aftermaket parts. If they take it apart and there are lose bolts they better eat the labor at the least, and they should also pay for a new pressure plate but it's unlikely that you will be able to get them to due to it being aftermarket. If there are no lose bolts your looking at about 4 hours labor.

Well something is not right...i know! The rattling doesn't sound like it's coming from the tranny but it's something that definatly wasn't there before! It's almost like it's coming from the front left of the car, but it's kinda hard to tell...it's not a consistant rattling just a certain rpms it vibrates and rattles!

What could be causing the vibration when revving in neutral? Unbalanced flywheel? This suks, i've only had the car for 1 1/2 months and it's been in the shop for 1 1/2 weeks now!

My cam'd LT1 had a Spec II and it never had a single problem at all...why do ls1 clutch systems suk so bad?

i've got the same problem as kevin(transamGT). I've got the Spec 2 though and my fluid is dark also. Where is the bleed valve on these tranny's? Whats the best way to do it b/c i've never done this.

You need to find out where this vibration is comming from. If you have to put the car in the air, well supported of course, and get under the car while somebody makes it vibrate. It shouldn't take long to find it.

Platinum if you search for "bleeding clutch" or something along those lines you should be able to find a detailed discription, maybe even pics. As it's pretty hard to discribe, but the bleed valve is just above the hydrolic line going into the trans on the drivers side. It takes an 11mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet works best for me. Some people drill a hole in the floor board to access it easier.

this is why people pay to balance the pressure plate to the friction plate. my spec III with resurfaced stock flywheel vibrated a little until the two plates found each other and "self-leveled". dont be afraid to slip the clutch to help take the chatter out of the take-offs. my clutch after about 5k miles feels very good.
gm installed my clutch for free!. about four months ago i had them replace a "seaping" main seal. guess what the clutch just happened to be on the floor and i happend to have a new spec III in my garage.
i would take it back. my spec clutch had the same engagement as my stock clutch. they didnt even have to bleed my system.

Well got news the morning that the rattling was a "heat shield" so they are susposed to fix that! The black fluid was caused by the black rubber hose! YEAH RIGHT! they didn't flush that crap. I'm just worried about the low engagment and the vibration when revving in neutral!
