Default friend with srt-4 needs info

ok my friend is trying to get better gas milage out of his srt-4. he asked me if he gets a boost controler, if he could turn the boost down to almost nothing for daily driving. i told him i wasnt sure if the car would run correctly without alot of custom tuning. anybody know if this would work?

His wastegate spring is what controls his minimum PSI setting. If his boost is at the factory setting he won't be able to turn it down unless there is a spring that will allow less boost............

best method would be to lighten foot, you can control the boost by not getting into it

I didnt know the turbo was so small on them things. Thats smaller than the T-25 on the Eclispe aint it(I dont know about all the turbos).

Tell your buddy to ease up on his right foot. That does a wonder in any car.

Yea a couple of my buddies have srt-4's, and for daily driving they just shift before their turbo spools up a lot, like a 2-2.5K rpms. Other than that as someone else said a boost controller wont allow him to run 0 boost as the turbo spools right from the exhaust gases and as Korben said is controlled by the waste gate spring, which determines the amount of boost. Now if he could find a way to make the waste gate dump all of the boost then i guess he could pretty much have an N/A engine (sort of anyways) but I have no idea what that would entail.

no it's bigger than that about the same size as a 14b. but being a 2.4L is spools it like a 2.0L with a t25
