Steps to Upgrade the OS using HPT
Let me see if I have the correct steps here to upgrade my OS from a 1999 to 2002:
1) I download someone's 2002 bin
2) Copy the changes from my current bin to the new bin (e.g. fan settings, injectors, idle speed, etc.)
3) Go to "Calibration" and press the "force BCM/Vats relink icon"
4) Select "Flash" "write entire" "Non Active Test" and make sure it will work.
5) Assuming no error messages in in step 4, Select "Flash" "high speed" "write entire" and watch it burn.
I have seen that the VIN may not always work with the new operating system. What do you do under those circumstances?
Also on a test basis I just tried pressing the force BCM/VATS relink and I got "not available" If it matters, this is on my work computer and it is not hooked to the cable. What's the solution to this or is not relevent?

I just use the VIN associated w/the bin that I flashed... only reason to have your actual vin in is for OBDII emissions as far as I can tell... (and in that case it's probably best to have an OS that was designed for your vehicle year)
The cable needs to be connected to the car to force a BCM/VATS relink ... it's generally only needed if the PCM is swapped for one that didn't come w/the vehicle

I have the 99 & 02 F-body on my cable. I wanted to upgrade to the 2002 OS and have the single VE table for SD tuning and take advantage of the fact that it has cells every 5 Kpa rather than 10 KPa.
My concern is that for OBDII emissions whether the tester will spit out an error if the VIN does not match.
