Default anyone been in more than one branch of service?

i was a linguist in the army for five years and now i'm switching into the navy, trying to go for the nuculear power program. i know everyone's "heard" stuff about other services but i'd like to hear thoughts from people who have actually served in different branches.

Navy? That's odd. Usually only the Army takes prior enlisted pers. Of course the Army will take anyone.
But in the Army, it's called the Warrior Training Program. 30 days of BS. I've seen quite a few weak *** ppl come through. Then you get the CIB'd, 3rd Bn Ranger Combat scrolled, E4, with the "tower of power" on his chest and some 5 jump chump Infantry DI screaming at him. HAHAHAHA. That was hilarious. That kids was like, "yea, whatever!!!"
I'm not sure how the Navy does but good luck. All the prior Navy ppl I talked to, said they loved the Navy and that they wish they could've went back.

I have not been in any other branch's Im in the Army, but I did serve with an Air Force Sp unit for two years and it was hell becouse between the Army and the AF no one was ever in charge. If it was ditry work like pulling gaurd or leaving post it was on the army. But if it was cake it was all AF. Also on top of that our 1sgt had no ***** so we always got **** on.

Also I am in the process of trying to get into the Air Force. Its hard they dont want any piror service guys. Im not sure this may be recutier B.S. but he said the AF wants to cut 2000 jobs across the board, that only makes it harder to get in for a dumb *** infantry man ha ha. I hope this is some help.

I'm sure you can get right in with no problems if you want to be an enlisted cop.

the air force was my first choice but they only take SPs and only if you're already trained (i.e. you're an MP). i'm an arabic linguist with a top secret clearance and they wouldn't even take me. if they're so full, wtf do recruiters do all day?!

what's wrong with MPs/SPs? i wouldn't mind being one. i would actually jump on it if they could give me dog handling school in the contract but they can't.

so is the navy that much better? i'd be pretty pissed if they discharged me after 12 years.

Yeah I was sad, but ended up getting at job on base fixing the same equipment. Hard to say they both have there upsides. Navy: Always have a warm bed to sleep on, but when not at war everyone forgets you are deployed. ALOT! Army when not at war was a pretty good deal. Home almost everynight. When at war you know you are in for at least one long deployment. You will make more money in the Navy especially on Submarines. As an E6, my Sea pay was like 400 bucks a month and my sub pay was like 400 bucks a month, that is 800 bucks over base pay.

Called force shaping, but its really only effecting the USAF officers. They are about 4000 officers fat, so you sneeze at a full bird wrong and ur *** is grass. I know a couple guys from my PDT that were prior service Army and their current job was Security Forces (down at Altus AFB, OK).

Only officers? Hmmm I'll have to disagree unless you know something I don't. I've had 3 guys from my shop alone get an early out... another buddy from Langely. Air Force times was saying 13,000 troops would be cut. Also CJR has been in full swing once an airman hits that 5 yr mark.

Hmm guess they trickled it down to enlisted folks too. I know they are doing a big push called "Blue to Green", basically they are promising us their sisters virginity if we swap over to the Army. Kinda tempting, but I want me a fixed wing and Army is mostly rotor heads.

Nothing. It makes the other recruters mad that have to go to high schools and malls. All the AF recruiters do is sit in their office (if they show up that day) and tell people they should talk to another branch. At least thats how it is here.

I was a happy E3 in the Marine Corps. Got discharged to accept a commission. Left active duty a year after I got back from Viet Nam but retained a reserve commision. A few years later I resigned my commission in the Corps to accept a commission in the Army. With my Army commission I joined the National Guard. The unit was totally screwed up so I only stayed a year before resigning my commission. I have a stack of DD-214s.

That describes 95% of all Army National Guard units in the state of Oklahoma

I have been in the Army National Guard for 5 years now and am getting tired of it because of how screwed up it is. I am a 92A...Automated Supply Specialist. In the 5 years I have been in, I have yet to do anything pertaining to my MOS during a drill weekend. Most of what I do involves either sitting on my *** hoping for something to do or pulling PMCS on vehicles. I am considering a transfer to the Air Guard here. I have heard the issue on the AF not taking prior service, but have a Full Bird Colonel, a Major, a Master Sergeant, and a Staff Sergeant from the specific squadron wanting me to come over...so I think I have a pretty good chance. I am wanting to go over there for SP

a friend is talking to an army recruiter abotu finishing up his last 2 years on his res contract in the army and they are going to pay off a bunch of his student loans.

if they will pay off a huge cunk of my loans ill sign up for them for az little while.
no way the usmc is gonna do anything like that or i would stay withthem. after the army is done with me ill probably come back to beign a good little devil dog.
