Special order (quiet procharger)?
#2
Did they say how much quieter it would be?
Let us know if you decide to go with it, I would love to hear what they mean by "quiet".
I'm playing around with making a casing for the blower itself,...that should quiet it down a bit.

hmmm. let me know how this works out and maybe a clip of there silent way and normal if you could. I am still searching for a clip of an ls1 f-body with D1SC at about 7 psi. I am curious exactly how loud everyone is cracking it up to be

I have the loudest P1SC I've ever heard and I love it.
9psi, MMS crank pulley and 3.6" blower pulley.
I've been told they have a testing process and because of machining tolerances they have 'loud' ones and 'quiet' ones, and that you can special order either one.

Most companies that sell gear drive cam sets offer 'noisy' and 'quiet' options, often charging more for the noisy. They are made exactly the same and just tested/graded for noise and boxed accordingly. Whatever floats your boat, I guess...

Hey Lawnboy,
As far as I know they do test each of their Procahrgers,...and each one has a db rating. I know you can ask for one that is on the "qieter" side,...but I'm not sure how much quieter it would be. I asked them what my db was at...and they said mine was normal for the procahrger. Pretty much what MadBill had said. I don't think they could do one that is totally silent. I'm going to call them myself on Monday,...and see what they say to me. Maybe they will give me a different story. I'll let you know.

The Vortech V-2 SQ uses helical gears, which are cut on an angle and engage more gradually than the straight-cut gears. As far as I can tell, Procharger does not have a helical gear blower - theirs are all the noisier straight-cut gears. The only way they are selling you a 'quieter' version is the way that was already mentioned - they are selecting assembled units that test with slightly (1-4DB) less noise. No way will they be as quiet as the V-2.
As far as an enclosure, for a Procharger I would watch out. With its 'self-contained lubrication system' you run a much higher risk of overheating the blower with an enclosure. Air blowing on it in the engine compartment is the only way it gets any cooling.
I believe both Vortech and Procharger have painted themselves into a Marketing corner: Vortech by its refusal to consider A2A intercooling (which is always more efficient given the proper sized IC, except for drag racing), and Procharger by telling people that not having to punch a hole in the oilpan is worth a lot, when in reality, the lubrication is worse than if it were pressurized and drained back into the pan.

F this , i think i am going to just get a paxton Novi 2000,
Helical cut gears, and uses a pressurized oil system,
High quality quiet supercharger that can support 1,000 HP
I heard one on a 98 mustang 4.6 4 valve cobra , sounded awasom, nice smooth gear and air rush sound.
I would of course have to have a custom mounting bracket made up, pulleys etc, but worth it,
i al ready have the ATI-procharger LS1 F-body Twin intercooler set up, just need a head unit to push boost through it.

Louder the better in my book. If this thing is going to be on my hotrod I want people to be scared. Very scared. As in blowing down the street with pedestrians ducking and looking around.
