JE vs. Mahle
okay so ive been looking at some pistons because i have a cylinder 3 misfire....ive swapped the plug and wire from cylinder 3 to cylinder 4.....and i still have a SES light for a cylinder 3 misfire along with a P1133 troubleshooting code(H02S Insufficienct Switching Sensor 1/Bank 1 fuel Control Shifted Lean(FAOSC)).....ive pulled the valve cover off and checked my springs and pushrods and they all look fine...my next step is to do compression test and/or replace my o2 sensor.....ive been informed that the misfire may be due to my o2 sensor crapping out on me, but i was under the impression that i would get a multiple misfire if it was my o2 sensor.....
when at a stop, when i let go of the brake's, the car idle's pretty rough as you can imagine..
now if it is indeed a piston or a ring that has broken on me...my question is, can anyone tell me the difference between the JE piston's vs. the Mahle's? all i can see is a price difference, and i am trying to save as much money as i can...i've heard good things about the JE's, but haven't heard anything about the Mahle's...can anyone point me in the right direction and inform me of which set i should go with? i plan on throwing a direct port(i think its the TNT F2 package) nitrous system on the car, and am not too well informed of what bore/stroke/brand of pistons i should be looking at....your help is MUCH appreciated and thanks in advance

Ahh, so there's less piston slap? Do they fit tighter hot, cold, or both? Depending on how much the material expands relative to the change in temperature, it really could be either... so it's not a stupid question!

.0035 is pretty tight for a forged piston. Tightest I've heard of anyways. The average cast piston fit is around .002. Forged pistons are almost always more prone to slap when cold than cast ones because of the extra room needed. Hot fit should be roughly the same for all pistons. I've run forged pistons at .008 in the past and had no noticeable piston slap. I wish I could say the same for my stock engine.

Aren't you all getting way ahead of yourselves here? I haven't done a lot of EFI diagnosis, but I'd be looking at injectors before I started changing out pistons...(Or even swaping injector leads if necessary, to ensure it's not a wiring issue.) Oh yes, if one injector is restricted/plugged, check them all and figure out where the crud is coming from.)

well i got the compression test done, and cylinder 3 came out to read roughly around 80.....bring on the pistons.....oh and when i was taking the valve cover off, i snapped one of the bolts in two....any ideas on how to get this thing outta there??? its sticking out MAYBE a mm or 2 so i cant grip it with any vice grips or pliers.....thanks
