Transmission died
Over the weekend, my car started stalling ('01 automatic T/A). Once it got to 30 MPH, it started jerking really hard. If I was able to get it to 40 + MPH, the RPM's would shoot up to 5000. Yesterday, I brought it to the dealer. This is waht they said. The computer gave a code stating that the transmission is the issue. The diagnostic costs around $440.00 (it's going to take the mechanic 5 hours to complete). Currently, I have a top of the line warranty on the car. The mechanic said that 9 of of 10 times, the warranty will cover it but there's always that 1 time that it won't. That's still not good enough for me. As I said, the disagnostic is $440.00. He estimated that a new transmission is around $3,500.00. Worst case scenario, I might get stuck with the bill.
I don't abuse the car. It only has 47,000 miles on it. I do use it as a daily driver. The only modification is a Hooker head cat back. How can my transmission go like that. I really don't understand. Also, usually, will a warranty cover the transmission. Finally, is it worth keeping the car?
Please guys, no opinions here, I really need straight advice.
Thanks!

It sounds like a lock up solenoid/valve is not releasing and this keeps the converter clutch on,making it stall. For that BS diag fee you could have a reputable trans shop diag and repair for less. (if it is the lock-up circuit of the trans) Whats the code?
and 5 hrs is BS! way too long.

I've got 20,000 well maintained miles on mine. My mistake was installing a TC and never getting the PCM tuned. 1-2 shift flair chewed up my 2nd gear clutches. Lost my 2-4 shortly after. Apparantly it doesn't take much to kill these things.
"Some guys have all the luck, some guys get all the breaks..."
BTW, ~$4000 for a tranny is highway robbery. Do the R&R yourself and have a reputable shop build your trans. Check my sig.
