Default How much BOOST with stock heads?????

Does anyone know how much boost stock 6.0L heads can hold without lifting. I have a forged 370 iron block and was wondering what head gaskets to run and how much boost they can handle before I have to go to an after market head with a thicker deck. Let me know what some of you guys are running and what set up. I was told around 12#'s is safe. Keep in mind I want ot keep it as safe as possable. Thanks in advance.

MLS gaskets and arp studs will handle 15 psi with no problem.

Use some copper spray as well. I have used it on my 4 cylinder heads with success to 22PSI. Cant hurt any, thats for sure.

as long as your tune is on and you have studs and NO knock a few people have pushed 20#'s.Id second running GM MLS gaskets, you didnt state what Turbo you have, but with the 6 ltr's you could do 15 or so.that should be over 600rwhp with the right turbo so thats plenty depending on your goals.

317 castings and GM MLS gaskets in my old setup, and in the white TT car. Both setups have seen 30 psi. Neither seemed to push water, but mine did show signs of the heads "floating".

12 psi with stock 5.3L heads and MLS gaskets in my truck, daily driver.

if i ever finish my POS, i'll know how the All Pro's do

Thanks guys. I will probably stick to around 13PSI. I also have the 76 MM TTI kit.

Domestic guys are such wussy's when it comes to boost, boost doesn't lift heads, cylinder pressure does, more specifically cylinder pressure spikes from detonation.

If you use studs and MLS gaskets I don't see why 1000 rwhp isn't doable. Harlan has done it.

True ,but I'm at the ripe old age of 21 and don't have money coming out of my ***. So I would rather stay safe than to risk all the money I have in the car. But if I had plenty of money I would go for it.

Tuning will dictate the boost level. We run 18lbs on one of our pump gas cars.It can only take so much timing for 770rwhp.If we add more timing and make more power it will push water on pump gas.

It won't push water on higher octane gas and more boost? Studs or bolts? 18psi is a very well tuned car for pump gas

I would use the oversize ARP studs and a SCE ICS Titan head gasket.

If i dont make atleast 2x what I made on a mitus 2.0... ... I wont hear the end of it.. They are another 4 head bolt cyl motor. Granted A DOHC pentroof cc head is a bit stiffer..

I think domestic guys tend to run too much static compression...

For high boost pump gas I'd recomend something like 7.8:1. Maybe lower 7.5:1, Maybe higher 8:1.. Depends on the exact fuel and boost levels...

More boost at a lower compression ratio on one engine can match the cylinder pressures of a higer CR lower boost engine yet make more power stying with in the same cyl pressure limit.

I think 8.0:1 is the perfect static compression for a turbo car, I got my pistons used so I'll be stuck around 8.7 or so on my 370, but that works good too.

It seems that most people here are afraid to go low compression because they think the car will be slow, which is not the case.

Has anyone ever tried a 6.0:1 comp motor with compounds? I wonder how that would work.

1. I have'nt seen compound sequential on anything but a diesel or methanol motor....

2. Not with a v8 & the right cam.. You still will have more before the boost kicks in than many big head and cam cars since the smaller cam makes more down low...

3. Get a thicker headgasket.. The SCE ICS comes in quite a few dimensions... Get the right one and its there CR wise.
