Default Holy SH*T!!!!!

I almost fainted today. I broke in my 4:10s and went to GM to get some gear oil and aditive. The dude at the counter told me "$68.00". I almost f-en passed out on the spot. How they justify $27.00 a quart of gear oil is beyond me. Whats worse than the price is that I actually bought it. Yeah I know I'm an Id but whatever.

I double check the additive. Some younger guy at the dealer insisted that the quart of "stuff" he brought out was rear differential additive.
I know it wasn't. He said it was like $40.
I went right down the road to the next dealer and got the correct (small bottle) for less than $5. 'Limited Slip Axle Lubricant Additive'
I just bought a bottle last weekend part# 1052358.
In the past I bought a bottle of GM additive and two quarts GM gear oil for $28 total.

You HAVE to use GM or Ford additive if you have an Auburn style diff.

I've heard from several souces that if you use any synthetic, the additive wasn't neccesary. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Some synthetics, particularly redline IIRC, come with the additive "built in"

You took it to the dealer, They do get paid by the hour. I think that was cheap , considering goin labor rate a t a dealer is like 75+

Why does the dealer charge so much for fluid? Because people like Y2K SS will buy it

I work at a Chrysler dealership and I installed my gears at work. I forgot to pick up some gear oil, so I was just going to buy it from parts. It was $12.00 a bottle, MY cost!! No way. I borrowed a friend's car and drove to advance, I don't think it costs more than $2-$3 a bottle there.

I can't believe you actually paid $68. Money must fall out of your *** when you walk

I think he meant that he went to the parts counter, just to buy the parts, so no labor rate was involved.
