Default TReX cam + FAST intake or suspension, ls6 & tb?

I am about to take the plunge into MTI and take advantage of their financing opportunity. I am thinking about either getting a trex'ish cam kit and an LSX 90 intake or just get suspension parts from there and get an ls6/ported tb combo elsewhere. What would be the best route to go? I know that there is more power to be had in the trex/lsx but it sounds like it'd be at the expense of my tranny or something.

It is critical that you budget good money for tuning if you do the big cam and FAST 90. And I'm not talking about a WOT chassis dyno tune or a mail order tune, but a comprehensive driveability tune...perferably without a MAF. If you don't do that, you'll hate the combination and so will the rest of your car. Tuning is the key.

so with all those boltons and a 4k stall, will i still need to take it to a shop to dyno tune?

If you don't do a huge cam and a FAST 90, then you probably won't need a tune, but if you do all the bolt-ons, 4k stall and all the susupension tricks in the world, then add a T-Rex size cam and a FAST 90/90, you better believe you're going to need some MAJOR tuning to enjoy it (especially with an automatic).

I dissagree Patrick. Dragaholic had a T-Rex cam with a FAST 90/NW TB with a TH-350 and a 5500 RPM converter with an 85mm SLP MAF and his car idled like a dream. The part throttle was just as good. He couldn't driven the car around town had he wanted/needed to.

the tune is essential. You are changing how the engine breathes, you need to correct the way it fuels and sparks

My input is; don't do either. If you can't afford to buy the parts out right, wait until you can. No point going into debt for toys. You'll thank yourself when you have saved the money and aren't making payments on it.

If the point you're disagreeing with is that you can still run a MAF, I would agree with you. You can. I did.

But when I ditched the MAF and speed density tuned my car, it became infinitely more enjoyable to drive, so much so, that I can now lug my .644 lift cammed, FAST 90 equipped vehicle with 3.42 gears through school zones with no problem. I'm talking cruising at 900-1200 rpm, no problem. Dragaholic had extensive tuning on his combo. The only way I know this is he complained so much about his MTI tune that he had to go to another shop to fix it. Tuning is critical, regardless of whether you run a MAF or not...in fact, it probably takes more skill to tune it to run right WITH a MAF.

Patrick, you say you just removed your MAF and had it tuned for no MAF? What exactly is speed density tuning?
