Default Port/UnPorted FAST 90 Dyno Results?

I've been trying to search but the search function still isn't working.

Has anyone dynoed before and after a port job on a FAST 90 setup?

Trying to do my research to see if its worth it or not, ya know?

The fast intakes I have ported before gained on average 5-10 hp, depending on tune. Hope that helps.

Pit-how much porting did you do? I`m getting a 408 installed right now with ET heads and thinking of port matching the intake. How much does it cost? Thanks!

Is that over the expected 15 to 20 rwhp? That would be good at around 25 to 30 rwhp. Right

i have been wondering if i made a mistake by not porting my fast also. i figured with my stock displacement and small 228/228 cam my gains would be minimal but when and if i go 402-408 i will definitely port it.

I just put 1 7/8 Kooks, ORY, and Hooker catback on my 347 with small 224/220 cam and picked up 2 mph over JetHot 1 3/4 duals wiyh X-pipe.

I'm also waiting to install a mildly ported FAST 90 and NW TB, I'm hoping to see 2 more mph over my LS-6 intake and stock ported TB.

I should find out in a few weeks

I just pulled my heads out of their box and layed the unported FAST intake over the runners.

Here are some pics, sorry they're blurry. Had a hard time getting the camera to focus.

You can see the runners match up ok. Not much porting would need to be done.

There's a few areas where the FAST overlaps the intake runner, not much though. Actually some areas the head needs to be port matched to the intake. Not sure a port match would even make a difference.

Make sure you have all the intake bolts installed so you get a realistic idea of were the intake will sit when bolted on. You are right about the areas on head that are protruding into the intake port line. A lip like that creates turbulence just like a rock does in a stream. I would get rid of those so you have a smooth transition.

Most of you guys will not believe this, but having your intake alittle bigger than your head is ok. I have taken part in some testing with a FAST, Holley, and LS6 intake. All of which were opened up down the length of the runner. Each and every test shows the same thing. When you have the straight walls taken out ~.080 from the outside of the intake port, they pick up 5-10 cfm. If it were a point that turned or rolled this wouldnt be true. Since it is totally straight, the air creates a positive air pocket where the head underlaps. The larger volume of the ported intake is where you have the gains. The FAST is alittle different. You can reshape the opening quite a bit, 2 inches in or so, and remove that weird casting from the factory. Jeremy I did mean 5-10 over an unported intake. However, in a perfect world the FAST 90/90 doesnt often gain 20whp, just from that change, sometimes it is 10 or 12, even less if you dont have heads. Beard, check your pm.

If one of the two has to be bigger than the other, you'd want the manifold bigger than the head.

i'll more then likely ship the intake to TEA to have it ported/port matched. I've been told they only charge $85.

If you can find someone to do it right for $85, I say go for it. I am a $100 minimum kinda guy. Once you port the intake, disassemble, clean and reassemble, I just cant see it being worth that little. More power to you, if its that cheap.

Here is how I ported my Fast 90 intake;
First, I removed the 1/4” wedge in the lower corner of the runner just prior to the head
Next, I raised the last ½’ of the top of the intake runner near the injector boss and radiused it upward towards the injector.
Next, I matched the port to the head and had to remove some material on the head in the upper corners of the runner near the cathedral.
Next I removed all the sharp edges at the beginning of the runner in the plenum area.
Last, blended in the ¼ lip just inside the TB opening into the plenum.

Some replies suggest sending the intakes out for porting. Each engine/head setup varies even with identical parts. I would be very suprised to see the ports match up unless the heads are on the block. You could very well remove material from the wrong side of the port doing it without the engine.

That's exactly why Tony Mamo uses an AFR 205 bolted up to the FAST intake when he velocity ports his intakes. This time consuming process ensures smooth, uninterupted flow into the AFR heads.
