Default 228/232 .588/.595 114lsa XER in 408?

I called comp cams and they suggested this cam,how will it work in a 408,tech said power should start early 2400 thru 6500,still little confused will it work, how will it idle? Will it work with the 150 shot?

i would prob go bigger than that. i have a 228/232 .588 .574 112+4 lsa in my stock cube motor. it runs good its my DD and no probs really a bigger motor will/can use bigger cams and still drive great. it really depends on what you are going to do with the car though. BTW from about 3k-6.5k it pulls hard. prob be lower on the RPMs power band wise in a 408 just an FYI

I ran that exact cam in my heads/cam M6 about two years ago. I loved it!! the power came in nice and strong, it dynoed 10rwhp less than my current G5X2 setup but actually ran a tenth faster and 1.5mph better in the 1/8th (I think it had a much broader power band than the G5X2 does)

With that being said I think it would make good power and idle VERY smooth in a 408.

What heads, intake, and compression are you running on this 408? I'm curious as to why the CompCams tech told you to run a cam this small...

If you are running the AFR heads and the FAST 90/90 setup that is in your sig then I would definately run a bigger cam than that...

I am running the afrs 205 and fast 90/90,HLT,3500.Im also curious why they told me that, maybe cause I told them its my everyday driver and out of town car,and that I wanted excellent street manners,if you all think diffrent advise?Has anybody had this cam in a 408?I doubt it,but how much should I make at the wheels, what would the torque curve look like,am I leaving alot of torque/power on the table?

I think that is a good size if your everyday car and its an auto car. You'll gain alittle with a bigger cam but usable power and drivability probably suffer. 230 ish cam is great match for the 205 heads. I think Comp is steering you right IMO.

i have a 240/247 639/647 @114 dynoed 516/478.. I'm going with not only higher compression from 11:1 to 11:5 and a different cam.. well still decideing if i should? it idles good right about 950 cruises good but gets good power after 3k but then i gain i also have afr 225's so there might be a difference on what type of cam you want to get.. i say either talk to EDC and get a good custom cam or futral.

That is almost the exact same size cam I have in my 346 and it does pretty well, goes from about 3000 to 6500, but I would definitely go larger in a 408.
Hell, it's too small for my taste in a 346. My next step is the t-rex.

I think you should be at 500 with a locked vert. Why the split? 232/232 600-600 114 is my suggestion. You have to remember that you have an auto trans.

How does auto trans affect cam duration?

I would think that cam would be very very mild in a 408. Almost a stock idle and would work well on the jug. I would go with atleast an upper 230's duration cam in a 408. JMO

People usually go with a wider LSA with an auto car, for tuning reasons alone. If you have a good tuner then you are good. I ran a 109 LSA in my auto last year

I think thats to small as well.
Put a Ms3 in there. Its tame for a 346 IMO.
good streetable N/A power for a 408, and awsome on bottle. most people i have seen run it in a 408 get just over 500 to the rear with it. Just an idea.

G-Force is putting my 408 together right now. I also have the 90/90 set-up and have ET 245 heads to go with it. I`m going to spray a 200 shot. Ben decided on a cam alittle bigger than yours. 244 248 620ish 114 an XE-R . I also drive this car daily. My wife drives alittle. I wanted it safe for her. We feel with the heads and all, around 530rwhp. And lot more on spray. I would go alittle bigger also.
