Question on Gear shift ****.....Pattern is upside down...any ideas on how to turn it?
Hey guys,
I have shift **** with the gear pattern on it....but when I screw it down onto the Lou's short shifter...the gear pattern is upside down. Can I adjust that somehow? It just looks stupid being upside down. Help.

Usually paper washers (spacers) are used to align the *****. Try cutting some
cicles from a match book cover. Just cut them out a liitle smaller then the shifter handle diameter. Cut about three of them to turn the **** 180 degrees. Add as more if needed. Hope this helps.

ive also heard about using glue sticks (hot glue gun type). Just cut a piece about 1/4 inch maybe and put it in there should get tight and give u some room for adjustment.

The teflon tape, or the paper shims (thats what my MBA **** came with) is what I'd recommend. Never heard of the glue stick, and I wouldnt try it either. Dont trust glue on something like that

I used a rubber washer to shim my shift ****. Basically, you just put the shim inside the **** before you screw it on. It occupies space and allows the **** to tighten up at an earlier point of rotation (so to speak)...just keep adding shims until it tightens up with the pattern aligned...

I used very small washers for mine. None of them are cut to the exact thickness so you swap them around to get them close. The washers will stretch up into the **** (at least of the factory leather ****) so you have a few thousandths of adjustment.

I have the Hurst 6 speed pattern shifter. It came with a jam nut. You screw that thing down as far as it will go, then screw the **** on until it is as far as it will go as well, and the just back it back out so that the pattern is on straight. Now back the jam nut against the ****, and voila! solid as a rock...
Here a pic of the jam nut with the shifter boot pulled down a bit :
And here with the boot pulled up again :

Oh I love it! The bar gets some getting used to, but in reality you really don't use it all that much. Wish they had a color display, but eh...it's functional, it doesn't have to be pretty. I ditched my Alpine 7879 for this one, which was the top of the line unit about 3 years ago, and this one actually sounds quite a bit better. Has great functions, works great with my Sirius Satellite radio...I am totally happy!
