PICS...of my tensioner pulley after it decided to leave my engine
This what it looked like when I popped the hood, the belt is just sitting on the raw bearing very loosely:

I moved the belt off the bearing with my fingers:

I took the belt off and the bearing remains:

Da bearing, froze up:

New pulley, $12.99 at Pep Boys:

this is off topic, but you might want to push that water pump hose on more. When I was doing my cam sway mine got stuck there, but I pushed in on more and now it's seated fully.

Lyle,
Dammit man. You're having your share of problems - but
a tensioner is kind of expected at some point, especially
at your HP level. (mine squeaks like a banshee, cold)
I forgot your engine was ARE. Have you asked them
about the summer overheating/coolant loss problems?
Good luck,
Gerald

Hey, I just remembered you had some belt alignment
probs. Maybe the tensioner has been going for a
while? Could also explain the overheating if the water
pump was not turning at an optimal speed, huh?
Maybe a new tensioner will clear that all up.

The belt was off about 3 weeks ago and it was spinning free. It seems it just decided to take a dump on me. Oh, well, 8 years of spinning, it did its job.

you sure about that?
I'm not doubting you, I'm just saying that it seems odd that GM took the time to polish that entire section mirror smooth, and didn't include any form of stop on it to dictate where the hose should extend to, they just let owners put the hose anywhere they choose from 1-4". Mine hung up a little where his hose is, I gave it a little more pressure and it popped all the way on. I don't know if that's the right way, but its the way I did it.

But, the way he has it is how my car came from the factory.

My waterpump hose has always been clamped down in the same spot that Quickin has his. Most of the LS1s that I've seen around here have the hose in the same spot as well.
Quickin, what company makes the tensioner that's on your car? I've seen some posts about people having problems with the factory tensioners, and was looking into possibly replacing mine. How much better is that aftermarket tensioner over the stock tensioner?

The problem is the tensioner under hard acceleration with high hp makes the spring arm start vibrating/jumping eratically and the belt gets tight and lose-tight and lose, then starts to jump the tracks on the pulley when there's slack under acceleration and it can come off.
The Katech eliminates the spring mechanism and it's just a tight, non-movable pulley arm, when its tightened doesn't move at all.
Its simply a great piece and works 100% perfectly for me, and I wack my throttle all the time

If you would quit trying to eat all those M/Cs down there
you wouldn't be eating parts.
PM me if you're "over" this way, and can get some photos.
Thanks,
gwj
