If you are running a stock size tire and don't want to twist the engine too hard I'd say at least 4.11s or 4.22s. I chose 4.11s.

When i wanted a 9" i was going to chose 4.30s, but now im confused on what direction im headed with performance wise. If i decide to go turbo or nitrous then its probably going to be 3.73s or 3.90s. But if i decide to stay all motor, its 4.30s all the way.

Road course guy here, the 3.89 /3.90 gear is a pretty good gear for short tracks and stock rev limit.

Would it be ok to for the 1/4 mi. w/o nitrous? doesnt seem like a lot of people are running with 3.89/3.90's. It seems to be a good over the popular 3.73's gear but the favored one is 4.10/4.11 and that the 4.11's are quieter, noise isnt an issue with me, just curious why.

in the 9" the 3.89's are quiet. its the 12bolt thats have the howling issues. if your N/A, then you can stick to 4.11's in the 1/4 but after a certain point and so much power, your going to have to drop your gear. im just trying to avoid having to shift to 4th in the 1/8th and 5th in the e.t.'s
