are there any complications and would you need any help or should i just take it to a mechanic?

You should be able to do it yourself. I have with no problems.

Jack it up and get it on jack stands, take most the bolts out of the cover (leave a few top ones in) then pry the bottom away and let it drain. Seal it back up and refill.

Make sure if you have an LSD you put the right additive in. You can usually take the waste oil to autozone or a place like that to get rid of it. It really isn't any harder than changing the engine oil.

I actually put RTV on mine.

To fill it up, there is a plug (I think on the section that hooks to the driveshaft) that you pull then fill.

Get a couple cans of brake part cleaner, clean the vent area and the some of the grime off the housing.
Use a 3/8 extension to remove the fill plug. Once you look at everything, it will become clear.

I also use RTV (I use ultra black, or ultra copper RTV from autozone), just make sure both surfaces are clean, and run a bead of silicone around the cover.
