Question Those with STRANGE or MOSER: Please post a review

Hello everyone,

I'm looking into getting a 12 bolt,...and through my search I've found good and bad on both. I'm really concerend about the gears whining terribly....

So if you have either a Strange or Moser, please post how you feel it came out.

Did you encounter many problems,..are the gears loud?,.....etc.

Thanks!

I have had a Moser 12 bolt with the Eaton posi in my Z28 M6 for almost four years. I have a slight whining noise from the rear, but it is not too bad. I have launched anywhere from 4000 rpm to 6200 rpm with the car, no problems at all.
The Moser 12 bolt with the truetrak was not an option at the time, otherwise I would of gone with the truetrak. Bob

I now have a Moser housing with a 3rd member setup by a local guy with a true trac and 3.55 gear.

I had a moser 12 bolt with an eaton posi and exploded the posi on the 8th pass with a 341 rwhp car.

Strange and I am almost tone deaf. Thinking of swapping to a 9in and putting a t-brake in.

Moser 12-bolt
3.73s
Eaton HD posi
33 spline axles
1350 yoke
TA cover
3-channel ABS

Fitment was decent, everything lined up OK...
The mounting plates that the axles mount to, one of them was bent (I guess it got knocked around during shipping).
Moser never sent the freakin spacers for my axles so my brakes wouldn't line up. Had to put 1/8" washers behind the rotors on the wheel studs and everything is OK now.

It was dead silent when I installed it, and after a few 1.6 60's at the track, it whines a little bit but nothing I can't live with.

Overall I'm happy with it.

The Moser 12 bolts heading towards LT1 installations do indeed require the spacers. The spacers are easily overlooked during packing, and we just encountered the same problem several weeks ago. I'm going to try to remember to tell my Moser LT1 customers to make sure they look to see they received the spacers before they begin the install.
The LS1 F Body's don't use the spacers, FYI. Bob

My 9" needed the 1/8 spacers as well, however the axles came with the spacers already placed on them. Install was pretty straight forward, and everything lined up well. This one on a moser, and once again not a 12 bolt but thought I would voice my opinion.

Moser 12 bolt 4.33s 33 spline upgrade
the install was painless

8 months and 20 passes nothing harder than a 1.7 60' broke several teeth on the ring gear

going to try out 3.73s from Motive gear

One thing to also keep in mind. When ordering a Moser, the rear-end is shipped two days after the order is placed. The last I heard it was three weeks for a Strange, which is okay for those whose cars are in Winter storage, but if you cars down and it's your daily driver, that kinda sucks. Bob

moser 12bolt - tq arm uses 4 short bolts opposed to the 2 long threw style that dont back out that strange use on there 12bolt. both can be quiet its kinda like a lottery if you get a quiet one or not. usally very liveable though.

i have a moser 9" was dead silent till a few track passes then whined for a season then horrible bearing noise for the last few months. just finished rebuling it and it wasnt setup right at moser is the reason the pinion support failed. now its silent again and spring time will tell the track story. if i was to do it again id go with a billingsley 9" havnt heard nor seen a bad rear come from them

If you are planning on alot of racing with a 6 speed, I would look at a 9"

I've been using a Strange 12 bolt in my car since 2001, have ~50K miles on it. Only replaced the seals in it once. Considering the amount of abuse I've put through it and the miles, that's more than par for the course.

What I've seen from friends Moser setups, I'm more than glad I have the strange.

Is your car an automatic or 6 speed?
