Default Opinions on turbo mfgs

So I've been looking at a lot of turbo set-ups and everyone has their set-up listed by who installed the turbo or who made the system. I'm having trouble figuring out which actual turbos people are using.
I'm looking for 800hp with a stock displacement LS1. Mild work on heads, turbo cam, truck manifolds, stock intake. Probably A2A IC unless someone convinces me otherwise. It'll be a raod race car.

All these prices are from http://www.forcedinductions.com
If I should be lookin elsewhere lemme know.

Garret GT-42 T76 = $1400
Innovative GT-76 (Q-trim) = $1900
Turbonetics T-76 BB = $1670
MP-GT45 = $800

Why is there such a large difference in turbo prices. I know that BB add to the cost. Is the Innovative Q-trim a BB turbo, why does it cost so much more.
Is there a big difference in reliability. Thanks for any info.

They are all the same basic units and parts. Just some companies have either less overhead, or are not based in the USA (ala cheaper labor).

So the extra $500 I'd spend on Innovative unit wouldn't get me any extra HP.
Who makes the PTE-88. I tried searching ProTurbo. Got a link.

No extra hp from any of them just cause of the name. Most of the wheels used are the same for most of the turbo companies.

So what kind of set-up are you running. Who makes the PTE turbo?

Garrett makes almost everyones cores. Some other turbo companies out there make units as well, but aren't as popular as the garrett units.

Street kit and fast response, I would go with a GT42 unit up to 800-900rwhp max. If you want more then go with an S74 or S76.

Ditto.

Without knowing that we can't advise you. For a 418, you need to stick to something with a big turbine. Problem is most LS1 guys are building big cubic inch motors, then sticking with a T4 S-trim turbine unit or less. That setup will have lots of backpressure and will make less power then a smaller 346 cube setup..

So a GT-42 76T on a built 346 is sufficient for 800-900 hp before 7000rpms.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah that will work. We like to use them for the LS1's.

I did some math below. Maybe you guys can tell if it seems realistic, prices incl shipping.

Garrett GT-42 76T - $1500
Dual Walbro 255LPH FP - $300
60 LB High Z Injectors - $500
Turbo Controller/sensors - $600
Tial 50MM BOV - $600
4" OBX Intercooler - $400
LSX truck manifolds, ported - $100
Cold side and hot side piping - $600

= $4600. Does that sound about right?

Yeah, I like many of the users in this section have not really looked at how displacement influences turbo selection. I think the reality is that most guys building a 408ci are not focusing on 88/91 mm singles because they think that's too big... And then you run into packaging issues. I bet we'll see more folks doing 60-66mm twins during year and next.

A little on the high side for some parts. We can get you some of those parts for cheaper, but its better to play it on the high side then low side.

People don't like to read is my conclusion. The information is out there, its just simply ignored. A 408 will work just fine with a SXX series unit all day long. Also twins work great, but packaging with them is another pain as well. But twins are nice indeed as well.
