Default Car runs like POS when cold....

So here is the problem. 99' Trans Am A4 and when the engine is cold or below operating temperature it runs like crap when I start out from a stop. It gets to about 2k and boggs and jerks and when I give it about 80% throttle or more it runs fine. Fast but fine.

My temperature gauge has also been acting up lately. It oscilates back and forth untill it gets to operating temperature.

Any ideas guys?

Thank You

Do you have any way to scan your actual ECT? Just guessing, but maybe it's the sensor/wiring, especially since the temp gauge is being weird.

I have a similar issue intermittantly. Had it this a.m. Car was sputtering, coughing, gagging, and surging. Didn't want to idle. It happens only when it's cold, and not every time it's cold. Temps that have made the problem develop are in the teens & 20s. It clears up within a mile of taking off, but it's kind of annoying.

Air filter is good. Plugs are new-ish. Don't see how belts could affect it. Have a fuel filter ready to go in, but question its affect on an intermittant problem.

I, too, would appreciate any light that could be shined on this issue.

I had the same problem this morning! temp guage fluttering from 0 to about 190. car acts like its fuel starved. @ low rpms the car falls on its face but if I tach it up it clears out until I let it idle down. I'm going to change the fuel filter and see what happens. I know its not the plugs cause I just changed them last month.

Alright guys...I think I solved it. After doing a few tests I found that my intake temperature sensor in the air filter housing was out of spec so I installed a new one of those and a new temperature sender and so far so good. And it is pretty cold in Orlando right now. I think in the 30s so right now the car runs great. Ill keep you all informed.

Alright maybe I havent solved it. I thought it would be easy but I guess I was wrong. IT seems I am having some sort of power problem. My guage is still doing the same thing and now it seems that I am not getting enough power to operate some of my systems right. My lights constantly go dimm and I know something is up with my charging system so i am starting to wonder if this could be the cause of why it runs like crap when cold. Now i am gonna check the alternator and battery....

Solved It!!
Well at least my problem anyways. Today I got my wiring diagrams out and traced most of my problems back to the ECM. After removing the connectors and ECM I found heavy corrosion throughout the connectors on the blue side of the ECM. Apparently the idiots that installed my stereo decided to put the ECM back in without a gasket to keep out moisture. Oh they are going to hear it from me on monday!

Hope you the rest of you guys figure out whats up with yours.

Thanks!

I was going to say check the PCM connections or check for vacuum leak
