I've got like 6-7 SBC's......
hello Everyone,
My buddy has stumbled onto 6 or 7 SBC's that need to be rebuilt. They are all (as far as I know) a complete long block without the carbs...
They all have GM cast #'s, not all of them are the same....and they are all sitting happily on engine stands. We also have a couple of sets of seperate heads. I don't know anything about SBC's or how much they're worth. We're trying to sell them...stands included to clean out the garage. These were all previously owned by his late father. I can get pictures for everyone if curious and the GM #'s. How much could we get for each of them?
Thanks!
Adrian

It depends on if they are two or four bolt mains. Casting numbers do make a big difference. There are numbers on the front pad right above the coolant hole for the water pump, the back of the block on the left side, and some have dates stamped into them on the rear of the block on the right side, or near the oil filter boss.

Just some helpful info for you from my years of building sbc and bbc's.
The four bolt blocks are worth a little more change than the two bolts.
Closer to a standard bore the better.
The 010 and 014 blocks are sought after by racers because they have a higher nickel content.
If you look on the front pad right in front of the passenger side head, you will see a series of letters and numbers. I have seen people pay in excess of $1000 for a coded block....example if you are looking for a block that you need for a 70Z28 restoration...built on a certain month and day....you may have it and someone needs it real bad....both of you win on that type of transaction.
Its worth doing a lot of research, taking some measurements, etc.
Same goes for the heads....a set of 2.02/1.6 heads are worth a penny or two.
I hope this helps you some......good luck on your research.

i give about 100 - 150 for a good core (No spun mains or chucked rods). I don't worry too much about the 4 bolt vs 2 bolt arguement unless I know someone specifically looking for a 4 bolt, honestly 2 boltts have beefier main webs and can be stronger than a 4 bolt with aftermarket caps. Good find!

Alright Everyone,
Here is the Numbers that I was able to get off of every head and block that we have. Some of the blocks are pretty much fully assembled, one is just block/crank/pistons ect..
Here are the numbers
Engine 1 (43) GM 14010287 (I believe this is a 4 bolt main)
Heads GM 462624
Intake (14) GM 14014433 X
Oil Pump 373444 GM 65
Engine 2 (24) GM 3970010 (4-bolt main)
Heads GM 3973487 X (L161)
Crank GM 3932442
Intake GM 6263751
Engine 3 (28) GM 3970010
Heads 3947041
Engine 4 3951509 (this is a 400) just block/crank/pistons
This one has a massive crank in it.
Numbers on the bottom of one of the main caps: F 0818
GM T 31
Engine 5 GM 3970014 (F 25 70)(327 )
Heads 3932441 (F 30 70)
Let me know anything about these!!! I'd really like some good info on these. Links and stuff would be good
