Default What's This '98 Z Worth?

I've heard about this site for a long time now, but never ventured over here until today. I'm a little more into old school with my '71, but this may change if something happens with this car. I have seen this sitting for a long time now, and finally stopped to ask about it today. 1998 Z-28, LS-1, 6 speed, black cloth int., 1LE option (if someone can tell me what that is.), hardtop, it looks to have headers (unless tubular exhaust was factory.) tires are shot, 12000 miles. Was wrecked in '99, and has been sitting ever since. he story is that the owner thought he had insurance, but didn't. Until I can get it up in the air, I can't really assess the damages. It supposedly runs. Any guesses as to the value of parting it out, or rebuilding it?

Thanks, Gary.

1LE is a suspension/bushing package, including bigger sway bars (32mm F/21mm R), different springs/shocks/struts, and various bushings throughout the car.

Sport Gold Metallic with a hard top, and 1LE. Probably a pretty rare car.

In that condition though, I'd say it's not good for much other than a parts car. Not even sure what a fair price would be, much of the body is damaged, so mostly just the interior and drivetrain would be useable, assuming the mechanicals are still in decent shape.....

if you could get it for the right price, assuming it has a clear title since the insurance company never got to it, and the airbags are good and it runs at least, it could be fixed. A 1LE, SMG, hardtop is rare. id offer the guy 3k for it. if it can be fixed and it has a clear title, with 12k miles on it, id say you could get 12k out of it. if not, you could sell the engine, tranny for about 5k. and the 1LE suspension for probably 1k, the interior for probably 1k and various other **** for more money........its anyones guess, im not an appraiser but a 1LE SMG hardtop is rare.

I'm wondering how much else is not true. If I read this correctly, no 1LE packages were built in '98.

Interesting.....I didn't know that piece of '98 information....

Just to verify though, check the SPID sticker on the inside edge of the driver's door for the RPO "1LE", that will tell the tale one way or the other. Also check the VIN on that sticker to make sure it matches the car's VIN.

If you want to part it out, and if the selling price is right (around 3k), and the engine runs/trans shifts, (the engine and trans alone are worth 2500-3000) it'd be a decent deal (maybe an ls1 into a 71 ) you could make your money back, plus some. but to buy it fix it, and drive it, you'd be better off looking for something else that's in better shape

My book shows a total of 99 1LE's built in '98, with only 3 SGM cars built (2 were 6 speeds) I'd say it's pretty rare!!

Hey, why dontcha run the vin and see where that car was originaly sold? I know that your close to me, and back in 1998, my father almost bought a gold striper six speed hard top. Would just be cool to see if we almost owned this peice of history.

it doesnt look THAT bad guys, i bought a 99 v6 in about the same shape for 3k fixed it up and ended up making a couple grand profit with 90k miles. if this car is as "rare" as you all say offer 2-3k and fix it up and either drive it / sell it do whatever ya want. just hate to see a rare car like that be parted.

If he doesn't buy it,I would. That seems to be a pretty rare car after all I have read in this thread.Definitely a keeper or fix it and make a profit off of it.

Would that be an A/C delete car??? No fog lights?? Aluminum driveshaft?? I don't have listed what exactly the 1LE package consisted of for '98. The latest listing I have is for a '93.

IIRC It was the 3rd gens that got the A/C delete, along with the AL ds, and the big brakes, plus the specific bushings, by the time the 4th gens were given the 1le package it was just the specific bushings, bars, and shocks and springs.
If it is as rare as you all say, it might be worth saving if it isn't too badly damaged
