I am looking in getting a 98 vert m6 car has about 60000 on it. i am new to the camaro cause i am a cobra man i really want a 03 cobra but dont have 30 grand sitting around.

what are some of the pro and cons of the 98 z28 my friend have a 01 transam and it was fast as ****. how much hp does a stock 98 z28 got.

i was always led to beleive there are exp to mod i not goin to go crazy but would like to beat most stangs and be able to hang with the new cobra. i fig if i am going to cross over have to beat the comp. any info on the car would be great full. cause when it comes to z28 i am a dumb ***

The Z28 and the T/A will have the same power.

98-02 Z28s and Trans Ams are almost identical in power. The 01 and 02 models are rated like 5 hp higher or something but it makes practically no difference. Your 98 Z will be slower then your friends Trans Am mod for mod though, because verts are heavier. But good car nonetheless. Some people don't mind sacrificing a few tenths for a drop top.

I picked up my 98 z28 vert last july and have loved every minute of it. Being it is a 7 year old car, it has a few rattles and noises I can't explain, but nothing that affects the car's performance. As far as how fast it is compared to the 01-02 LS1 cars, I raced my friend's 02 Z28 6-speed from a 10mph roll and ended up losing half a car through what was more or less the 1/4 mile. Both of us are at the same level when it comes to driving. So I figure I could get it back to even with some practice. Stock you'll beat mustangs no problem assuming they are stock or mildly modded. As for the cobras, get a cam, full exhaust, and maybe a little of the juice and you should be fine. I've got some pics in the link in my sig.

your stock 98Z will rape any stock GT mustang, except the 05-06 which it will hang with, and it takes minor bolt ons to beat the 03 cobra. its a known fact that the LS1 is underrated at 305 hp and the Cobra had 385 hp....so do the math.....a cam and some bolt ons will take the LS1 beyond 385 crank hp.

try to get a '99 LS1 instead. little inconveniences with the '98 when it comes to modding...like the oddball PCM, the head bolts, etc.

'03-04 Cobras are underrated at 390hp also. they dyno around 365-370 bone stock. so if you want to look at crank HP, that's 435 for the Cobra.

and what minor bolt-ons is going to beat a stock Cobra? minor bolt-ons are like intake parts, catback exhausts, dragradials...maybe longtubes.... anything that greatly affects stock drivability and gas mileage and costs a lot cannot be considered minor bolt-ons.

and just like Fbodies, not many people buy s/c Cobras to keep them stock.

But see that 310 for that Z28 is also crank HP but they do put down between 300-330 so thats what like like 365 at the crank? anyways strap even a crappy blower on that Z28 and say hello 450RWHP !

Bolt-ons are anything that can be bolted on...like full exhaust (headers, y/x/h-pipe, cutout(s), cat-back/duals), intake (CAI/air lid, intake manifold, throttle body), UDP, SFC's, STB, etc. Full bolt-on LS1's generally put down around anywhere from 340-360 HP depending on if it's a a4 or m6 and if it was tuned correctly. Generally after full bolt-ons, people start to do major things like cam, heads, nitrous, torque convertor, turbo or s/c.

never said LS1s only made 310 fwhp. i already know what the rwhp divided by .85 or .80 is for my car.

do you have a crappy blower on yours and 450 rwhp? and which crappy blower are you talking about? you make it sound like a walk in the park to drop $6,000 to $10,000 almost all at once into a used car for parts, labor, tuning, retuning, etc. if the guy doesn't have a car yet and is looking to supercharge an LS1 soon after he gets it....he might as well shop for a used 03 Cobra that's already got a supercharger and more importantly, a forged motor and the supporting parts for FI rather than a 10.5:1 LS1 motor that was not built for FI. and Cobras are going for as low as $20k i've seen.

didn't i just say this?

with the exception of "anything that can be bolted on".

because a dry nitrous kit is bolted on and is easier to install than LT headers.
