Default did I taost my trans?

Ok so I have a 4L60E with a 3800 stall, 24k cooler, transgo, and my car has 2.73 gears. I just put my converter in a week ago. My car runs like ****, it idles like ****, but I don't think this is from the verter. I have driven my car for 60 miles now. on the way home today I think my transmission came out of gear. i had the shifter in D and was driving at 35mph, decided to speed up, and had to give it 1/2 throttle to speed up, revs were at like 5 k and the spedo was movign real slow, so i droped it in 3 and that didn't do anything, so I put it in 2 and give it some gas, just reved up like it was in neutral. also, the car was hitting the limiter on shifts over 1/2 throttle, would come out of gear at around 5k and hit the limiter and not shift gears unless I lifted. first it only seemed to do it on the 2,3 shift now it does it on the 1,2 as well. Any help is great guys. thanks

Check all your trans lines. Same thing happened to me and it ended up being a line that popped out and leaked all the fluid. I bet that's what it is.

similar things happened to me.. my clutch disks were fried... if i pushed the gas too hard it would bounce off the rev limiter.. a real bitch when trying to merge on the highway.. also.. it would slip from 1500-3000rpm in all gears but first.. and i had to let of the gas when i wanted it to shift..

It does sound like a lack a fluid, but you may have a busted seal inside the trans. If you don't have pressure the car won't hold the gear. It sounds like it is time to pull the trans out for someone to inspect it.

Almost sounds like the pump took a crap on you. I had a simular problem with my 60 (one of them)... it was burnt clutches. The problem turned out to be in the tune (big cam 239/246 on 109)... the line pressure would drop down and slip the clutches.

well, if it smells burnt than you probably burned up the clutch packs and maybe even a drum.

there is a test port on the side of the tranny. you can test line pressure there. also check for codes. just because the SES lamp isn't on, doesn't mean the PCM hasn't noted a problem in its history and stored a code. either way, it sounds like the tranny will have to come out of the car. what color is the fluid?

How would it reach the rev limiter at half throttle?

the trans would feel like it was coming out of gear and rev to **** when it was trying to shift. the fluid is still redish/pink but when I wipe the dipstick on a rag I see it leaves some black stuff behind. how do I test for line pressure. the car is set at factory line pressure now, could this have something to do wih it? I was worried about the pump blowing up with bumped up pressure and a transgo.

ok so here is an update; added some fluid because it was low, took it out for a spin, i think I have no second gear, car will pull in first to about 55mph under almost full throttle, then will smack redline, I lift and revs drop to about 2k, give it gas and it just revs. it really sucks having an 11 second car that won't go over 60mph. I also see very high rmp under normal driving 4k @30mph on flat ground.

Just by 'slipping', if you put your car in neutral and give it half it'll get pretty close. He said shifts over half throttle so it would happen.

Sounds to me like you destroyed the 2nd gear band. It usually takes the drum out with it due to metal to metal friction.

good luck with the new trans.

I blew mine up last summer. I had a friend rebuild mine though.

I don't know much, but I know it helps with downshifts, makes them quicker and less harmful on the trans.

a vacuum modulator replaces EPC solenoid for heavy duty, high performance and transplants. Comes with a pacifier for the force motor, so as not to trigger a code. Allows for instant response in line rise in anticipation of engine torque. Eliminates the delay, when a downshift is needed now, and not a second and a half later. Works best with the modified Trans-Go 4L80E Performance Shift kit.

basically it lets vacuum control line pressure rather than the pcm which is better and safe..improper line pressure will toast a tranny

this is the only company i know that sells it seperately but your trans guy should know how to get one

FLT does use a vacum modulator in their rebuilds.
