Default M6 Rev Limit woes... Anyone please help

I am 100% Positive that the rev limiter is on key. I have been trying to get my rev limitter over 6500 for some time now and no matter what I set it at for each gear, it will not go past 6500. I have set it up to 7000 just to see but it still hits as soon as I get to 6500.

Anyone please help.

I see most posts are for guys with A4s so that tab in ls1edit does not help me.

Thanks,

Not sure if this is what you did or not, but under the Engine Cal, Idle + limiters, Rev Limit by gear, then change them to what you want. Resave the file, then load it. Should look like this:

Did you also adjust the "Rev limit by Temp" table? This needs adjusting as well.

I'm confused now. My rev limiter by temp (stock setting) is 5000.. But my engine revs up to 6200. What the deal?

I'm going to be raising the rev limiter on my car soon as soon as I finish my cam install, so I would love to know!

You dont need to change the temp table. Make sure you changed the settings on the Main screen before the by gear settings. Under Edit then engine cal.

Make sure under park/nutreal and the ETC are changed to the cutoff setting

I tried that the cutoff is now at 6900 and the resume is at 6850 still it stops at 6500 what will I need to change in the temp. I also changed the park/neutral, bad vss, and etc limit. Those are the only places I made the changes so if there is anywhere else please list the steps.

I really appreciate all of your help. Theres nothing like spending 550.00 for something to do a few things and the main thing does not work.

Please help I am still stuck, and again thanks,

Are you using your stock tach to see when it shifts (6500), or are you ATAPing it...

Just asking because the stock tach is very slow....

I just sent the file and thanks. Also when I purchased my car the previous owner said hed had a chip installed that gave the car 50hp <img border="0" alt="[bullshit]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bs.gif" /> I was not even thinking or caring about that at the moment. I looked around my pcm and there is nothing strange attatched to it I looked all over the passenger side under the hood by the windshield. If it is installed somewhere else maybe thats retarding my programming I heard of the jet chip and heard it was a waste of money. Does anyone know where its to be installed I want it out "That is if its even there"

SS, your file is correct. There must be something intercepting the PCM and telling it do to otherwise.

When you read your PCM the new saved file you get has to correct rev limit right? Just to be sure that the PCM took the changes.

Thanks 9t9blueta I am pretty sure its taking the programming because as you can see in the file I raised my idle about 150rpms to stop my car from cutting off after the cam install and that is working GREAT. I slowly but not too slowly rode 1st gear to the limiter to make sure the tack could keep up. Well it went smoothly until just befor the 6500 mark where it hit the limiter. I checked by going to jetchips page to see what I was looking for and I could not find a jetchip in the car so I dont know what the problem could be. Do you guys think resetting the pcm then reprogramming would help? I am all out of ideas (not that I had many to start with)
I also wanted to just say thanks to all here on this board. Shifting at or just before 6500 is not that bad except the cam has been know to make power past 6600 which means a whole lot in the quarter especially with my stock gears. I need to stay in my powerband as much as I can.

Your stock tach is just off slightly. We had this same problem with a 2002 WS6 with a TR230 rev limit set at 7100, but it wouldnt go past ~6500 on the stock tach. Problem was solved today after installing an autometer tach. It hits 6900 no problem, stock tach is around 6300. Its even off about 100rpm or so at 2000rpm. Hope that helps you.

This is the reason I put in a Harlan Shift light. The stock tach was so far off. I would be what looked like 6100 and it would hit the limiter. It was a combination of the CAM, Crank Pully and tach being way off.

Setting the shift light at 6700 I was able to see that it definitely was going past what the tach was showing.

Now with efilive I am able to see at the dyno and just wot runs and tuning that its doing much more the what its showing.

Thanks I have autotap coming tomorrow hopefully and I can see for sure. I went ahead and ordered a digital tach also. I knew the tach could be off but I would have never thought it to be over 100 rpms off. I was getting worried after spending so much you really start to want every edge for every dollar.

Thanks all,

I am having this problem, but my car does go past 6000RPMs. Did you find the problem. BTW, I set my Harlan Shiftlight at 6100RPMs and the light doesn't come on except in first gear right after the rev limiter hits. I think this is because the momentum of the internels pushes it another 100RPMs.

EDIT: Oops this thread was made in 2003. Well still I would like to know.
