Default shift light help....

Searched and found the write up at install university but my dumba** still cant figure it out and i dont want to fry my ignition. I dont know anything about electronics and stuff like this but since it should only take 20 minutes i'm kinda pissed that i cant do it. Anyone have a more descriptive explanation as to where the red and green wires on a raptor shift light connect to? The directions say something about red to a +switched and fused 12volt...and green to a negative ignition coil or tach output lead. I dont know what any of that is. Any pictures/help greatly appreciated.

I just did mine...a bit less than enthiused about some of it (light doesn't come on until past the rev limiter in 4th, with the light set at 5800rpm), but it wasn't too hard. If you have TCS or ASR, there's a reddish-pink wire going into that. You'll put a wiretap on that wire, and then run the red wire from the shift light to that. The green wire goes to the #10 pin, a white wire, on the lower ECU wiring harness.

Here's a few pics.

Where the red wire from the shift light goes to:

Where the green wire connects to (the wires are numbered, on the metal part of the ECU right above the wires themselves):

Where I mounted my light:

The green goes to the tack signal output. I believe it is Pin #10 on your PCM. The red to a power source ( pink wire is on when ignition is on)

The #10 i understand now, green to the #10 slot...but the red wire i'm still a little lost on, I dont have tcs or any of that, how do i gain access to a wire for a power source? I'll give it another shot today and hopefully i'll be able to finish it. Thanks again for the help...and dave if your into shows, we have a ton along the coast each season that get pretty packed, if you want to cruise down this season let me know....never enough F-body's in the area.

You could always run it to the fuse pannel by the driver side door.

If i run it to my fog light switch, does that mean i need to have my fog lights on whenever i want the shift light to be on?

I don't believe so. My TCS has only been on about 3 times since I've owned the car, and the shift light works perfectly fine with TCS switched off. I'd imagine the fog light switch would be the same way.

I ran the wires through the grommet in the firewall under the PCM, and have the ground and the #10 ready to be tapped, but i never got around to radio shack for the taps so i'm not quite done yet. All i need are the taps and then figure out where to mount it. I like it next to the fog light switch and in place of the cigg. lighter...i also saw it behind the air vent, and in the pillar for the defrost vent. Cant decide, How bright are these at night? I was thinking about putting it someplace hidden b/c i had a yellow one on a monster tach in my old mustang that i used to have and it was right on my dash, guys that stood behind the car when we used to race said they can see it through my limo tinted windows all the way down the strip lol. I have the red cap also. Does it light up the whole interior of your cars at night?

It's bright enough to put behind the vent and see it well, but not bright where it is irratating.

a pink wire? as in any pink wire or is there a specific one? I was going to look for the pink-red one we talked about earlier that should be running to the fog light switch. Is this the same one your talking about?

Installuniversity says any pink wire is a switched 12v, so if you can find one, you should be good. My light (it's a Raptor) is BRIGHT at night. Hell, it's bright enough to see fine in bright daylight, even mounted down by the shifter.

I don't have ASR button on my car only a spacer filler where it would be. I took off the plastic trim and saw that there were wires going to that area and tapped into the pink one there. So does that mean I have ASR or not?

The light works perfect, set it at 5800 rpm. Also I placed in the defogger vent.
