99% stock & less than 200 miles per tank WTF
I got the car last year with 22,XXX miles on it, it now has just over 40,000 on it. Only mods are a lid and filter. I also changed plugs to NGK's and changed the wires. I'm lucky if I get near 200 miles at the end of the tank. I hear of people getting a lot better mileage than that out of their LS1's. The only time I get near 200 is when I put it in OD everytime I get up to speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I got about 180 miles on my tank with very little racing action...Do you live in a CITY or a TOWN thats a big difference I live in a small town thats why my gas milage is ****, my o2 sensors are running rich too! Has your car thrown a code? It is possible that its your sensors its also possible that your fuel filter is dirty, try mpg in your search it might bring up some other things.

My sig pic was when I was bored at work, I probably havent lit em up in 6-7 months. I drive like an old lady due to winter and the shitty weather in general. All the roads by my house are 50 mph roads but there are quite a few lights. I just hear of people getting like almost 300 miles out of a tank and I barely ever see 200. Once again Im not out there driving like an A-hole, weathers messed up and gas is too expensive. I just wanted to see if there was any maintenance I can do to bring mpg up a bit. Thanks to those that have replied.

I have an A4 and I easliy get 220-250 miles on a tank. I don't open it up too often and I drive 50-50 city/highway. 180 seems really low if you aren't getting on it a lot.
Oh yeah, I have 3.73's, lid and a catback.

If you have several stop lights and you're constantly accelerating to 50mph and stopping again, you ain't gonna get good mileage....even if you're babying it. I've never seen over 22mpg in my car, even when it was bone stock. The norm for me when stock was about 210-220 miles between fillups, usually putting in about 13 gallons.

I used to worry about this too. I get about 200-220 miles per tank with about 1/4 tank left. The only way that I can really see if something is wrong is to go for a road trip where you are just driving about 60 - 75 mph on the highway. I would get about 350 miles per tank with about 1/4 tank left on my trips from So Cal to Cen Cal going 75 all the way.

Could it be your gas gauge. When the light comes on mine, I still have 5 or 6 gallons left. I usually put 15 gallons in when the trip odometer reads 315 miles. Do you do a lot of short trips where the engine doesn't get a chance to warm up? That could also kill your mileage. I usually get 21-22mpg with a 80/20 mix of highway/city. I've gotten 25mpg on a road trip once.

My mileage dropped recently from 350 mi. a tank on long trips to 250 mi.
My mixed city/hwy went from 270 to 220.
I have stock auto w/ 3:23's
I'm worrying that it might be my trans, as I have 138K and when I coast or go downhill at like 40-45mph it feels like the converter locks (or unlocks?) and I lose speed almost like I downshifted.
Hope you figure it out, good luck.

Actually one of the best predictors of fuel economy is brake use. The hotter the brakes get the more fuel was wasted.
If you speed up it uses X amount of gas ( X being weight, engine, gearing, time, ect ). Now once you get the car to speed you will get mileage based off drag ratio and engine efficency.
In your case I'm already wondering if you understand how your car works. I say that because no sig or reference to what you have ie transmission (and I am guessing A4).
If you have an A4 and do not use the OD position. You are going to have bad economy all the time.
The computer see the D position as an input from the driver as to how to make shifts, which gear to select and when to lock and unlock the converter. This greatly effects economy.
If you have an A4 and are concerned about economy, leave it in OD. If you have an M6 and are concerned about economy then keep your RPMs as low as possible.
By the way I have an M6 live in NW CHI BURBS and keep a spread sheet with all fuel purchases from day one. I get an average of 20.9 mpg (calculated over 30K). That is a 13-14 gallon purchase at 280-295 on the trip odometer. It does go higher and it does go lower.
And I love to drive it hard.

Montreal sucks for gas mileage, just the way the infrastructure was developed, its unreal how many lights every 100 ft and stop signs everywhere. Its rare that you even get to 4th in the city at all. i get about 160 to a tank, just lid/exhaust
Keep in mind, this is granny driving.

If you read my first post you would see that I mention putting it in OD, implying that I have an A4.
