Default Building an iron block FI motor for Project Dragula

Just a quick update, I am pulling the 422ci on Monday, the 4L60E too...

Plan is to build a 4.030 bore iron block with 6 liter heads for forced induction.

My plan is to document the steps and costs involved with the longblock buildup.

I'll be working with a lot of our sponsors to access parts, there are so many good folks to work with that it's hard to pick, but certain folks have certain strengths and heck I can only run one set of cylinder heads.

I will be running a budget-friendly set of connecting rods and NONE of the engine parts will be rare or hard to find.

We'll put up some pictures as we make some progress.

PSJ where are you finding these "budget" friendly rods? I am in the market for some also but cant find anyone that carries a budget set.
I'm doing a 346FI build up tho w/ the stock crank. I hope your source has some for the stock crank.
Thanks,
J

PSJ:

Wild Dude! BEst of luck on the new project! Are you selling your old 422 motor? What are you going to do with your FLP tranny? Are you going to upgrade to a different tranny or just freshen up the FLP stage IV?

GOOD LUCK and congrats!

Can you outline the new setup? What turbo setup are you going with?
Cheers,

John, don't take this the wrong way, but why not get your current combo working correctly before tearing it out and starting over?

I'm doing the same exact build up John.

Got my pistons for $570 from Diamond and my Eagle h-beam rods for $480 ($1050 total).

Going with 6.0 ARE heads 2.05/1.60 valves.

Still debating on turbo or supercharger... Leaning towards turbo.

Where are you getting turbo manifolds from?

I don't blame you for jumping ships but why give up now when your sooooo close to those beloved 10's(NA) you've been trying sooooo hard to get?

As soon as you hit 10.99 early this spring you then could've switched.

???

Perhaps you don't understand, I could not race the car with that endplay. I was in jeopardy of hurting the motor. What you suggest was not an option, or I would have trailered the car down South to do that.

I'm comfortable with the old setup. Based on calculations I was making ~500rwhp.

New goal is >700rwhp to start, and 750rwhp at some point. I'd like to do this on 100 octane.

Thanks Coach... Here is the plan.

Chapter 1) Longblock
Chapter 2) Transmission
Chapter 3) Rear End
Chapter 4) Turbo system
Chapter 5) Fuel system
Chapter 6) PCM Tuning
Chapter 7) Track testing

As of a few hours ago, Speed Inc. pulled out the old combo.

We know who we will use for the shortblock, and the bumpstick, but not the cylinder heads. We plan to run 6.0 heads with minimal decking. We have a lead on one set that looks very promising we'll decide on those when we see the flow sheets.

Thanks for deleting my question John! Very very nice of you to do so.

I guess you don't want to tell any of us how you measure endplay with the engine in the car and hooked up to the tranny.

Jason, I'll let you know once I start putting together Chapter 1. We're 95% sure who we are going to use. I'd like to use 8-10 sponsors on various aspects of the car so we can show off some of their stuff. I won't put stuff on the car unless we have flow sheets for the heads, and build sheets etc.
