Default Just bought a 94 Z, need your thoughts on something

Well like it says just bought a 94 Z28. It has a lot of things done to it like H/C 3000 stall K&N FIPK T.B. Longtubes, catback,tune,3:42. It was sent to Thunder Racing in Baton Rouge a couple years back. What I would like to know is would these mods be enough for it to hold up to it's 7000 R.P.M shift points. It shifts at 7000 every time without missing a beat.Someone suggested that it might be balanced and blueprinted, someone else said it could be a stroker motor. All I know is the mods I listed, I dont know if its the stock bore or what. Please give some of your opinions on it because I dont know a whole lot about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Stock tachometer? If so, most are notorious for being a good bit off during high rpm.

7000 RPM?

I dont care whats inside that motor, that alot of rpms.
I have mine tuned to shift @ 6000 and I think thats too much.

Some guys on here have it up more than that, but its all personal preference.
But still 7000RPMS is alot.
Get that **** cranked down, or you'll be getting your hands dirty if you abuse that car.

It sounds like its set up for it, but thats why I dont buy " mystery cars "

Dyno it and find it's power curve and what it's making. Once you know that, we'll be able to give you more advice on what's in there.. but without knowing the curve and numbers, I can't tell you much.

Maybe thunder racing has records? They should have kept copies of the repair orders...

It's definately not hurting the motor because when I bought the car the tranny fluid was so burnt it wouldnt even shift into 2nd under pull throttle it would just keep hitting the rev limiter, rev limiter is set at about 7200-7300

Wow, that is pretty crazy rpm's

Like suggested above call Thunder Racing or talk to the previous owner. They must have records of what has been done to the car.

Get it to a dyno or go to the track and keep changing your shift points until you dial it in. If it runs a better time shifting at 7K, then that's where you want to be. If not, adjust accordingly.

Well the previous owner had the papers from thunder racing, they put forged pushrods, better bearings,3000 stall,K&N FIPK,Holley 52mm T.B.,Hooker supercomp catback, hooker longtube ceramics, dynotuned it and put a cam and head package on it.But right after I bought it I talked to a guy that said the motor had been rebuilt since then Thunder racing built it the 1st time.he supposedly built it back the same way it was but changed the cam in it.Im about to go get it tuned again because the air/fuel is definately off on it,Itll burn your eyes if you stand behind it for a few minutes.I just wonder if the guy that rebuilt it got it balanced or something because at 6500-7000 RPM its smooth, you can tell the motor is not being overwound or anything. Also the thunder racing sheet didnt mention anything but what i put, stock crank just been turned and keyed, nothing about being bored.Im gonna email thunder racing anyways to see if they got it on file.
